I left a message with our ped a while ago and am freaking out waiting for her to call back. Today I rubbed my hand on Thomas' head and noticed his soft spot was sunken in quite a bit. Does anybody know if this is normal? Thanks!

It can be a sign of dehydration. Drink a ton of water and then nurse, and see if that helps. You could also give him an oral electrolyte solution like Pedialyte.

Just remembered he's been vomiting, right? So he probably is dehydrated. Easy to fix, but keep us posted!

Thanks, Rachel. I will give your suggestion a try. Yes, he's been vomiting, so this makes sense.

Rachel already answered the question, but I just wanted to say keep us posted. When Ainsleigh was born she wasn't interested in eating for a long time and the ped said to watch her soft spot to make sure she was getting enough.

Also, you've been sick lately, right? My doc said that when you're sick, it can diminish your BM supply, so nurse the baby a little more often to make up for any deficiency you may have. Along with pedialyte, if you have juices or water you can give him, that may help, too.

Hope things get better and that his vomitting stops.

Lisa,

I am so sorry to hear that Thomas has been sick! I think I may have seen a post earlier that you had a cold? Are you feeling better? I haven't had a chance to read too many of the posts or reply either. Did you get my last e-mail message? I am sorry it took so long to get back with you, but it is good to be in touch again.

Let us know what the ped says. I hope you both feel better soon!

Sarah makes a good point! If your supply is down, that would contribute as well. You can boost your milk supply by eating oatmeal or taking fenugreek, blessed thistle, or nettles. Mother's milk tea also helps, and so does just drinking a ton of water and nursing more often.

Thomas' ped just called. She thinks he is fine - no dehydration but I am not convinced. I will continue to take your suggestions since they can do him no harm and go from there. Thank you all so much!

I hope he's better! My little guy had the tummy flu and got dehydrated a couple of months ago...my heart goes out to you. Are you giving him anything for hydration or BF only?
