I thought I had a kidney infection - horrible back pain only on the left side - but I was really in labor! Aidan Christopher came into the world at exactly 1 PM on Tuesday, January 28th, weighing in at 7 pounds, 5 ounces and 19 inches long, after about 19 hours of labor. He's still early - almost five weeks from our original due date - and is still in the hospital, but he is such a trooper. He had fluid in his lungs, but that cleared up within 36 hours, and he's a little jaundiced because of ABO incompatibility, but not so he needs the bili lights. He just finished his 48 hour course of anti-biotics and was taken off of IV fluids, so now we're just hoping he starts eating enough. He's up to 30 cc's, but the neonatologists want him up to 40 cc's before he can come home. Mom and Dad are doing great, and we're working on getting some pictures of our little man downloaded so we can share them with everyone. I'll post them as soon as I can!

Oh my, what a surprise!! And what a big boy - if you had gone to 40 weeks with him, he would have been a 10+ pounder - yikes!

Can't wait to see pics!

Take care of yourself, Mom!!

Congrats! So glad to hear that everyone is doing well. Sending lots of eating vibes to Aiden so he can be home in your arms soon.

Paula

PS 3 weeks early I thought I was going into labor despite the fact that the pain started creeping up towards my throat instead of down. Turns out it was a gall bladder instead.

Unfortunately, no - the dates were right on track! His three ultrasounds all measured right where he was supposed to be. He would have been a big boy full-term. He's had some more set-backs - the bilirubin levels went up, he wouldn't take a bottle, and he has apnea episodes, but everything is being monitored and he is making great improvements, so we hope to get him home by the beginning of this next week. The feeding tube should come out tomorrow, he'll finish up the bili lights by night-time, and the 72 hour monitoring for apnea should end Monday, if they were able to get it started this evening when we left. We're hoping to bring him home Monday night or Tuesday morning. It's just so hard being home without him, but at least I know he's in good hands - the NICU doctors and nurses are just wonderful!

So happy for you all...good thing he didn't stay in much longer, or he would've been a REALLY big guy! :)

Enjoy your first weekend together!

I'm adding my name to the list of well-wishers. Looks like the little guy thought he needed to come out before it got too crowded! :) Congrats again. You will be so glad to have him home.

JMarie,

Too funny! Your story reads almost EXACTLY the same as ours -- just off by about 5 days and 2 lbs. :)

Don't worry about those two pounds, he'll catch up faster than you know! It must have had something to do with that cold Chicago weather!
