Here are the details, I am so swamped so I just copied what I posted to our Yahoo group...please forgive me :)...

Thank you all so much for thinking of us and the words of wisdom and encouragement and the notes I just read bring tears to my tired eyes...

Here it goes :)

Wow I had no idea I had so much love to give...

Here is the quick (well... run down...)

My water broke yesterday at 7:00AM TUESDAY FEB 25th, on the dot, I had just crawled back into bed after letting the pups out and it wouldn't stop. Poor Spinnaker, I tried to make my way over to our bathroom and just stopped on top of her huge fluffy bed and it just pored. She snickered out of nervousness thinking I was ""peeing in the house" and was going to get in trouble"...:)

I was so thrilled and thought "on to the birth center", until the MW called back and I proudly described my fluid as gold colored and brown, didn't know that was miconium and thus I could not deliver at the center. My midwife escorted me to Chapel Hill, UNC Hospital where they have priveledges and they deliver "their way".

My body would not contract...I had no contractions, though fluid kept coming!!!!

At 1:00 Pitocin was started, my excellent unit RN and the midwife were aggressive with the dose because they worried for Tristan though all along they commented on the great rates, and what he was doing.

At 4:00 I couldn't take the pain anymore, they said it was from the Pitocin ,but I will never know, I had the epidural (and anesthesia had a tough time with it), but once in things rock and rolled. The MW thought it would take me awile since I was not dilating BUT

At 6:30PM I was 3-4cm

At 8:30 I was 6cm

At 9:00 I was 8-9

At 9:30 I started pushing and he was born on the dot at 11:30

It really could not have gone better for the situation adn I was discharged 9 hours after birth...

His Apgar was 8-9 and he was greeted by 3 NICU Doctors who said he was as healthy as can be...
He didn't cry but made the cutest coo'ing noises. Slept all night pretty much but 2 hours where he just looked around

Got him in the door here at the house and he is crying a lot...

My major dissappointment is I wanted to donate the cord cell blood and the placenta so that he could help other children in need, and since I couldn't contract it took over an hour to pull it out...so it was of no good to them. They even had anesthesia come to give me more pain meds becaseu I wanted them to be more aggressive in getting it for the donation...but it was too late...

He was 8lbs 4 oz
He was 21 1/2 inches long

I was certain he would have tons of hair, but does not... just "fuzz" and not too dark of hair, His complexion actually looks more like mine than Steve's but suspect that will change.

His eyes are so curious, he is so alert, and all of the nurses fell in love with him...

We are taking the phone off the hook, and going to sleep and hope to surface as a family in the morning.

Love you guys for thinking about us so much...and could not have done this without all of the warm wishes from my board friends...

Thanks again!!!!...off to bed to cuddle as a family!!!

Congratulations Neve!

What a harrowing experience, but it sounds like it was well worth it! Meconium in the water can be serious so I'm glad it all worked out. I had the same response to the eipdural both time: it just made things rock and the delivery sped by after that.

I'm so happy for you and your new baby! Enjoy the euphoria before the sleeplessness starts. :-)

Congrats to you and Steve, and welcome Tristan! It sounds like you had a great experience, even though it was not what you planned, but then again, that's what being a Mommy is about - surprises! And the end result - a wonderful healthy baby (and Mommy) is what matters most. Enjoy your time together!

Hugs and best wishes

Congratulations, Neve! Don't worry about your labor. It's very normal for contractions to take up to 48 hours to start after your water breaks. Sounds like with the meconium, it was safer to get things going, but it doesn't reflect at all on your body's abilities! And YES,pitocin contractions hurt like crazy. I'm glad you could find a way to get some relief. You're a champ! Glad that little guy is here and you're all home celebrating. We can't wait to see pictures!

Congratulations!!! Wonderful news!!

I remember well the overwhelming feeling of love that blindsided me with my first child. Wow! I wasn't expecting that and it's the kind of thing you could never describe to someone who hasn't experienced it themself. Don't expect it to subside anytime soon!

Hope you had a great day all cuddled in! Post pictures when you can!

Neve,

Oh Yay! I just love new things...new babes, new mamas, new papas.

I'm glad Tristan arrived safely despite a few bumps in the road. I'm sorry you weren't able to deliver in the birth center as you'd hoped, but in the end all that really matters is that baby and Mom are safe and well. You did a fabulous job!

Congratulations!

Congratulations! How wonderful that even though everything didn't happen per your birthplan that you were still happy with the event! My labor class keeps talking about remaining flexable, and your success proves why that is important. Enjoy your family!

Neve,

I am sooo sorry that I haven't responded sooner - I just saw this post!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I am so sorry that you were not able to donate the cord blood but I am quite certain that you have forgotten all about that by now :-) Enjoy every inch of Tristan :-) Doesn't he smell amazing?? My husband can't understand why I am constantly smelling Ian's head - it's an addiction. Can't get enough of the scent...I dream about it :-) Gotta enjoy the scent while it's still pleasant, right?! :-)

I am sooooo EXCITED for you guys!!!! Good luck with the sleep...the breastfeeding...the sleep...the cries...the breastfeeding...the sleep...you get the picture :-) And I am soooo impressed that you were on the computer THE NEXT DAY!!!!! Wow. Take care.

Talk to you soon
