Could use some thoughts/prayers

Hi all,

Please, if you pray, say one for my mom. She has been doing well with the treatment until now, but today they found she has fluid in her lungs (an unknown side effect). They're treating her and she should be fine, but if they can't get the fluid resolved tonight, then they can't continue with the clinical trial. They did a procedure where they boosted her immune system, extracted the super powered blood cells and plan to reintroduce them to fight the cancer. They won't reintroduce the cells without first resloving the fluid issue. The cells basically "expire" tomorrow so if they can't resolve the fluid issue overnight, the treatment will be over. There is at least one other treatment option left if she can't go forward with this, but since none of them have great odds of working, it would be nice if she could at least have a chance at this one.

Nicole, I'm so sorry to hear about this side effect. I hope the fluid issue will be resolved tonight so she can get the cells reintroduced tomorrow and can continue the treatment.

The clinical trial is still on!!!! They were able to get enough fluid from her lungs last night in order to proceed. She's still got some fluid which they are going to extract with a needle tomorrow -yuck! But she had a full day of treatment today and the cells weren't wasted. I still get the feeling that they are being very cautious and could stop it at any time, but at least we got through that hurdle. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. They seem to have worked and I felt so much better last night after reading them. And then all the new ones today. Thank you guys!

I apologize for not being able to post earlier. I had this engagement with a few board members and after talking to my dad this morning, decided I would still go. So I was able to enjoy my morning with Beth and Sarah (and their CUTE little girls)and stay in touch with my dad via cell phone. My mom feels kind of miserable and doesn't really want any visitors, but I might pop up there later and give her a few new pictures of the boys.

HOORAY!!!! I've been hoping all day that you had good news to report, and I got so happy when I read your post!!:) Let's hope this was the only side effect that your mom will have! If you do stop by the hospital later I'm sure seeing pictures of the boys will make her smile. And please pass on our well wishes and let her know we are all thinking of her!
