I posted about this under "Flying with Baby". But I thought I would look it up anyway for more info. It is sold at www.onestepahead.com and www.rightstart.com. The price is $30 and it is aproved by the FAA for flying with a lap child.

Here is the link for it on the Right Start website.

If you read the description closely, you will see that it is FAA approved for in-flight use, but most airlines will NOT allow you to use it during take-off and landing. Personally, I have a hard time seeing how this would provide much protection to your child during turbulence.

What about having the baby in a sling (like the Baby Bjorn) in your lap? Wouldn't that help him/her from slipping off during the flight?

In a sudden decceleration, your body is going to fling forward, bend at the waist, and crush a baby held there.

Turbulence is more in a random direction than decceleration, but any direction of movement other than straight down would have a similar effect. The plane moving rapidly downward would cause the baby to pop up off your lap, possibly with a force greater than the straps of the Baby Bjorn could handle. I assume this vest can handle those forces.
