So I am looking into getting a steam cleaner, for the carpets. I have been looking at the Bissell "Little Green" Multipurpose Deep Cleaner. Here is a link for it:

Has anyone used this. What did you think? Is it a good buy? I don't really want to spend more than $70, plus this little guy is easily stored, which is a must. I would love to hear your input. If you have other suggestions shoot away I want to make a good decision. I think I will go to the library and look up the latest Consumer Reports Guide Book and see if it says anything there.

Thanks you guys!!!

We have an older version of that one and love it. It is easy to keep it handy to clean up spills as soon as they happen.

We started with the cordless rechargeble smaller one and it was useless, so we upgraded to this one.

I recently bought the gianormous Hoover Widepath V2 Steam Vac (and spent a small fortune on it).

Unfortunately I haven't used it yet. I'm waiting for Mr. Sun to reappear so that my carpets will dry!

Have you checked out www.epinions.com?

I think as long as it is for little spills, you would be fine. For larger projects like cleaning an entire room, you might want to consider the Bissell Quicksteamer Deep Cleaner.

It's an upright, so you would probably need a bit more space for storage, but it would make cleaning a full carpet much easier, plus it's only $10 more than the Little Green. We just used one to clean our carpets (it was a Hoover), but it was the IL's, so I don't know what they paid for it. What a difference it made to our carpets, though!

Oh! I didn't realize this was to be to clean a whole carpet. The Little Green Machine is definitely NOT good for that. It's good for little spills, to clean up in between the steam cleanings of the whole carpet.

Well we might be moving into an apartment w/all off white carpeting. I was thinking of this steamer for more spot cleaning, baby messes, cat barf (GROSS!!!) and such. But maybe the extra $10 would be worth it. If we get the place we will sign a two year lease and well, I know what kind of messes we will be making in two years!!!

That is exactly what we use it for. Mostly cat barf. And 12 year old boy messes (pizza always falls sauce side down). The baby hasn't made any messes on the carpet yet, but I did use it to clean spit up off the couch.

Julie:

Thank you so much for asking this b/c I want to get one and am asking for one for the holidays.

For those out there who do have the steam cleaners. What solution do you use to clean the carpets with? Have you tried just using water? I'm wondering b/c I head that cleaning carpets is potentially harmful to babies and may cause damage to central nervous system due to chemicals. What do you do with your kids.

Thanks!

i'm with you, i detest household chemicals. i use a solution of natural enzyme stuff -- either biokleen or odoban powder (you can get it at pet shops -- but it is WAY cheaper online at the wholesale pet supply places like petedge, valleyvet, kvvet)
