View Full Version : How Did You Frame Your D-A-D-D-Y photos?

Well, I've taken photos of DS with the D-A-D-D-Y letters and I'm wondering how to frame them. I found a frame with space for 4 4x6s, but not 5. Are you all doing a collage or what? Any suggestions would be appreciated. TIA

I was wondering that myself. I think what I may do is take the letters and stick them on the backs of individual frames and then insert hooks so that they hang all off of each other. But I am not sure yet.

I hadn't thought about hooking them together. I had considered individual frames hanging side by side, although I imagine that would look best if they were hanging from ribbons and DH is not exactly into ribbons. Any other ideas?

I think I might end up going the custom frame/mat route. It's definitely more expensive, but since this will be the extent of his Father's Day Gift, that's what I'm going to do. Michael's is normally pretty reasonable and I think I might do that...although given I'm pretty late in the process...Daddy's probably going to be opening a placeholder gift (color print-outs from my printer).

What about something like this, except with 5 frames instead of 3?

At Michaels, I got a poster frame that is long and narrow and will hold 5 of the 5x7 size beside each other. It was on sale for less than $7.

I also got a frame at Bed Bath and Beyond that is 5 of the smaller size, all hinged together.

Target has 5 frames (for 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 photos) for $10.

The above post should say that the 5 frames are hinged.

I went out shopping for the "perfect" frame and here's what I found:

1) Umbra wooden wall frame for 5 4x6s at Linens 'n Things ($30) - natural or cherry. http://www.umbra.com/cgi-bin/umbra.storefront/3ee6427707a95d9827400a00003505de/UserTemplate/38

2) Sonoma set of 5 hinged metal 2.5x3.5 frames at Kohl's ($8) - black, gold, silver, pewter (all colors, not the actual metal type). http://www.kohls.com/products/product_page_vanilla1.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=2126 1677&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=11357193&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=3440897&bmUID=1055278975434

3) MCS Industries wooden French Pleated Pocket Keepsake Mat 10x20 at Michael's (on sale for $17.50 through Saturday) - black. This one's interesting because this background allows you to slip photos, tickets or whatever into the slots/pleats at the same or different heights. The background is cream. It was with the shadowboxes.

Thank you for sharing your frame findings! I searched high and low this week and could not find a five-opening frame. I bought five acrylic box frames yesterday at Michaels to put the photos in for Father's Day then planned to custom frame them next week after I gave them to DH. I will head down to Linens and Things today to check out the Umbra wall frame.

BTW - another idea I had for the pictures was to adhere magnet sheets to the back of them then cut around the baby. Wouldn't that be cute on the fridge?!?

These frames are 15% off at Target this week.

I found magnetic frames at Michaels. I am doing a set for our fridge, and one for daddy to take to work and stick on his filing cabinet.

I found a frame at michael's that has a matt with 3 5x7 photo cut outs for about $13. I just plan to spell D-A-D. I asked them at michael's in the custom framing department how much it would cost for a custom matt cut with 5 5x7 or 4x6 holes (to fit a poster frame about 11x36) and they told me about $50. So, I'm sticking with D-A-D. I'm taking the photos to walmart tonight to get developed, hopefully they turned out. Good luck to all doing this.

I found a frame at Corners that was five wallet-sized frames hinged together. It looks really great!

Thanks for the suggestions. I picked up the Umbra frame at Linens and Things for dh's pictures and a frame that holds four 3 1/2 X 5 prints at Michaels for
P-A-P-A (thought it would be a nice gift for my dad too).

Of all the posters on this board, I may have one of the older children (ds is 25 months), and let me tell you it was a bear to get him to pose with the wooden letters. He either wanted no part of it or made a game of dropping the letter just as I was ready to snap the picture. I have to admit, both of us were pretty frustrated by the end (which is a little sad, because this is supposed to be fun), and I resorted to bribes such as playing his favorite song while we took the photos and promising him a piece of "bread" (a.k.a. pound cake--full of sugar) at Caribou Coffee. : ) Oh well--I could think of worse things.

I took a whole role of shots, so I hope I'll come up with some good one. We don't have a digital camera (yet) so I had to do this the old fashioned way.

I was just at our local CVS dropping off my D-A-D-D-Y film and they had a white shelf with 5 cut outs under neath for pictures...it was 12.99 and they only had one. I didn't grab it becasue the box said 3x3 pics if I read it right. I looked everywhere for the dimensions.

I think I saw the same one at Kohl's. I had my pictures with me and there is no way the would fit.

I did go buy the umbra wood frame yesterday and the pictures look FANTASTIC in it!!! I am so tempted to give DH his Father's Day gift early!!!
