Annette's Best Buy scam post reminded me to ask about this!

I received an e-mail from [email protected] asking me to confirm my e-mail address and credit card information. It says that it's a process to detect inactive customers. The e-mail 'looks' official, has the PayPal logo, etc. But, I got suspicious because the last piece of information it asks for is your ATM pin. I am certainly NOT comfortable providing that.

Did anyone else receive this e-mail? If so, have you contacted PayPal about it? Couldn't they just look at my account activity to know that my account is active??? Hmm.......

Mary,
Check out this link to a internet hoax site. It list a number of different hoaxes, including one that sounds a lot like the paypal email you describe. Your email sure sounds like a scam to me!

Never Ever Ever provide your ATM PIN to anyone who asks by email or phone. Even my bank does not ask.

The EXACT form I got is out there. Thanks Karen!!!

I even hit 'Reply' to the e-mail (not intending to reply) to see what e-mail address came up. It was a [email protected]. They must have rigged it somehow to look like a real address.

Very scary stuff!!! This would be EXTREMELY easy to fall for.

I also got this email. I sent an email to paypal on Sunday and they said they would look into it. I have yet to hear back. DO NOT respond to the email!! Paypal makes it clear that they will NEVER ask for your password outside of the site.

Yeah, that looked extremely suspicious to me!!! Especially considering all the literature banks provide saying exactly what you just said.

I got this email twice. I submitted it to Paypal and they told me it was fraudulent. One thing to remember about emails from Paypal is that they will ALWAYS address you by your first AND last name. An email scammer won't have that information just your email address.

Just my two cents...

MY friend got this type of thing from Earthlink but it did not ask for ATM pin. Just SSN and bank acct. I guess she didn't think it was weird since she pays her EarthLink acct by direct withdrawal from hre checking. Anyway, her checking account was drained an dshe is in a HUGE mess with someone constantly trying to purchase things using her idenetity -with an addres in Indonesia!!!

I would NEVER give any info to any one that contacts you (either email or phone)

Scary!
