How do you have a picture show in the thread and not as a link? Also, how is it that you guys can get your pictures so large? When I size them down to fit the 50Kb maxium, they are tiny.

If you just type the URL of the picture in your post, it knows to display it as a picture rather than a link.

To get the pic to be bigger in square inches, but smaller in file size, you want to save it at a lower resolution. I use Photoshop and when I save it gives me an option ranging from low to max on resolution. The lower I choose, the smaller the file size will be.
Edited to add that it doesn't matter what size your picture is if you want to display it in the post like I did here. You have to be hosting it somewhere else, so size is not an issue. Size only matters if you want to attach it so that it is a link at the bottom of the post.

So where do you host them?

Mine are hosted at AOL. AOL gives you space per screen name for pics or whatever you want to put there.

Edited to say: oops, nope, I just get a link. I guess it depends on the site. Oh well. Cute picture, anyway, so I'll leave it. :)

I just skimmed this, and didn't read most of the responses too closely, but are you all trying to put it so the picture inserts and displays on screen? If so, you have to make sure the link is a .jpg or .gif....otherwise you are pointing to a page, which cannot display. If the end of the link you paste has a .jpg or .gif, it will display the picture you are trying to display.
Is that what you were trying to do? like I said, I read it quick, so I could be TOTALLY wrong.
I just re-read this, and I think I read it totally wrong. sorry!

No, I think you are right Tammy, and that is why they don't display as a picture in the thread. The message board software is looking for it to end in .jpg or .gif to know to show it as a picture.
Shutterfly and other albums don't work that way, so you can get them to display. Someone once posted about how to use things like that for avatars and that would be the same way to get them to display in a post here.

You're welcome! I'm still learning too. In fact I just learned to crop to a fixed size when I was working on the DADDY pics for Father's Day. So I was happy to use my new skill. :)

Hi Marisa. I am not incredibly tech-savvy, but here goes...
I am always posting photos of clothing items, in addition to the link. To do that, I usually go to a website and right click on the picture. You should see something titled Properties. It's a website jpeg address. I highlight it and then right click again and copy it. Then when I post here, I paste it. It shows up as an address in the initial box you type in, but in the post it's a picture.
For attachements, somebody just informed me about the "save for web" option. By doing this you lower the resolution of the file without sacrificing size. I use Adobe Photoshop.
Hope I made a bit of sense. I don't have a website, so I can't copy pictures from there.
Wait a minute!

Whoops! Same as Rachel. He looks a bit...confused? And surprised?
Okay, here's an attachement that I just resized...We call him G Kong....:)

What I do is crop just my baby's face out of a picture. It has to be perfectly square so that when the software here shrinks it down to avatar size, it doesn't get distorted.
I downloaded your original pic and cropped it for you. I am attaching it here, use it if you like it, or go ahead and crop it a different way if you would like.
