Did the ultrasound tech say boy and you had a girl, or vice versa? My doctor claims that ultrasound is a very unreliable way to predict gender and says that techs have been wrong with at least 50% of her patients. I don't know anyones that was wrong (well, I do - mom to a a set of twins was told they were boys, and turned out both were girls, but that was 15 years ago! Nobody recently...) So was your tech right or wrong? What did the tech say you were having and what did you actually have?

Right on the money! I had one done at 14 weeks and they saw the determining factor right away (he's a boy).

I don't know anyone personally where the ultrasound was wrong but I sure have heard the stories.

The tech said boy, but we didn't really need her. Josh was a bit of an exhibitionist, and even our inexperienced eyes clearly saw a full set of male genitalia. :) We have one ultrasound photo with his legs spread and one in profile, and both will very likely embarrass him when he's 12.

On a side note, by OB says that as long as the ultrasound techs have a good shot, mistakes are few and far between.

I know two people that were surprised by their baby's gender (in the last couple of years). In both cases, they were told that they were having girls and ended up having boys.

The ultrasounds were wrong for me. We had ultrasounds every visit as we were high risk. At 14 weeks the doctor said girl. At 20 weeks the ultrasound tech said girl (with the new machine). At 34 weeks the doctor was doing our ultrasound when he stops looks at his chart, looks at me, looks at the machine and repeated this 4 times. Dh and I thought something was wrong. The doctor said to me What did we tell you were having? We knew before he said anything else that they had the sex wrong. This happened right before Christmas so we still recieved alot of girl gifts. During the delivery which was a csection the doctor after saying he got the baby out okay says and he's still a boy.

Mine were right and it was "called" two days before 13 weeks (yet I don't know if that was 13 weeks post LMP or conception)...but the specialist read him as a boy...and the next one said "no doubt" a boy :)...

My girlfriend's was wrong...they said girl and it was a boy...

We had to have four ultrasounds during my pregnancy for health reasons. It wasn't until the last one when I was 33 weeks along that they could accuratly see "the girl parts."
Until then, Audrey was not cooperative and we didn't know.
The first one at 17 weeks the Dr. said he thought it was a girl, but "don't go buy anything pink." He said he would say 50% sure it was a girl, so we just did the nursery in green mostly then, pink, yellow and blue accents. :)

We didn't find out the first two times but the third time we did and they said girl and she was! I did talk to the tech at my doctor's office once after one of the boys was born and said "I wonder if you got the sex right?" and she told me that she hadn't been wrong in some-odd thousand births. I can't remember the number but it was shockingly high! I guess they track that sort of thing. I only know one person personally who had an incorrect ultrasound. They didn't find out until she'd given all her girl clothes away because they thought they were having a boy!

We didn't want to find out the gender. And surprisingly, even with 3 ultrasounds, we didn't see anything. I figured we would even though we wouldn't really be looking for anything. And there was something to see; we had a boy! :)

We didn't want to know, either. To be honest, I didn't enjoy my ultrasounds all that much (except for a very early one when it was too early to tell) because I was so afraid of seeing something. And I just about ruined the 20-week one for DH because I kept telling him not to look too much! I don't think I would have been able to tell even if I had looked in the right place, but he was much better at deciphering those pictures than I was, so I was afraid for him to look except when the tech was specifically showing us the non-gender-related parts!

I had 11 (!!!) ultrasounds, and my little stinker wouldn't cooperate! We didn't know until he was born! However, intuition is a powerful thing. After we got home from the hospital, I realized that all fo my "gender neutral" clothing was boy stuff.

We didn't find out the gender, and even if I had looked I couldn't have figured it out. Do you know how many times I simply nodded and and said, "Uh-huh" when the tech was showing us stuff? :D

In my heart of hearts, I knew it was a boy. I took all the tests, and they all came back girl, but my body was all boy.

This time, we are going to find out. I thought it was a girl, but now I am not so sure...And I am not really showing yet, so I can't go by what my body is displaying. We shall see! :)

I know somebody with a 10-year old son who thought she was having a girl. I think it broke her heart, because she was really looking forward to a little girl she could read Anne of Green Gables and Jane Austen with...He just wants to play with pretend guns. :D

My ob did them (not a tech), and he was right both times. I think I heard that he has yet to be wrong!

With DS we clearly saw the 2 dots, and DD clearly had a line.

We asked our tech how long she'd been a tech and what her rate of correct guesses was. She said years ago when she'd kept track it was btter than 95%. She won't even LOOK before about 17 weeks tho! :D

Both of our girls she said were girls and she was right both times. :D

I had one ultrasound at 20 weeks, and they said it was a girl. They were right.

I had an ultrasound at 20 weeks and DS fully cooperated... we could see he was a boy! The ultrasound tech was having a lot of fun... she sent us home with about 16 pics and one of them has an arrow labelling the "boy part".

I have heard that they are wrong about girls more often than boys, but I don't have any stats to back it up:).

I had an ultrasound every month throughout the pregnancy. They determined the sex of the babies at 19w.

I also had an amnio that confirmed it.

We had ultrasounds with both of our girls at about 18-20 weeks and they were right both times in predicting the sex. With Kasey, she gave us such a great view that dh and I knew she was a girl before the ultrasound tech even said anything. I was superstitious and decorated both nurseries in a neutral theme, adding pink accents once they were born. Good luck!
