Just wondering if it is a toy (what kind) a blankie or something else.

I think babies with loveys are the cutest thing!

My dd's lovey is a Russ Berrie doll names Ling. She's got black braided pigtails which is how dd holds her. Her clothes are velour and she's kinda like this..... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2941367041&category=339

My older dd was attached to a Carters blanket with primary colored bears and balls all over it. :) She still has it. Boy is it RATTY!

This is Sarah's lovie: http://www.aspecialgift.com/images/LoviePinkLamblg.gif

It was a gift and I thought it was cute, so I put in her crib. (I know, I know...) Before I knew it, she was attached to it.

If I had to do it again, I would deliberately cultivate a small lovie as opposed to this one, which is pretty big. A lovie will come with you everywhere, so it's worth it to try to find a small one.

And FYI, poor "Lambie" looks NOTHING like this anymore!! She is torn and ratty and her stuffing is coming out!

My older son has "little blankey" - a handmade croched blanket, that is now basically a ratty mess. He started using this at about one year, and won't part with it. We tried making a trade for "little blankey's brother" (the woman who made the blanket made another one for us). He didn't go for that deal. Now we have little blankey and his brother to keep track of.

My younger son has "buddy" - a small flannel doll that we got at Target sold under the Parent's brand. I am going to take Beth's advice and go out and buy another one before it is to late. He's been using that since he was about 6 months old.

Andrew has no lovey (other than Mommy's hair, which he likes to grab handfuls of and suck on).

Amy has a cloth diaper: the old-fashioned kind made by Gerber that is literally just a cloth that you would have to pin. We started using these as burp cloths when she was very little and since she was the Spitup Queen there was always one around. It eventually became her comfort item and now she still likes to have one whenever she is drinking. There are two good things about this: (1) I have 3 dozen of these things and she knows it so it doesn't matter if I lose one or have to wash them and (2) if I ever want to get her off of it I can do the cut-it-into-smaller-and-smaller-pieces trick.

Blankies! She calls them "na-na" and snuggles them and sucks on the binding. I love when she asks for a blanket: "Mama, na-na." Too sweet!

Tristan loves several things and holds them and stares at them and "talks" a talk that is only used when "talking to them. He plays with several things and blows up his cheeks and puckers his lips while staring at them.

BUT I think his true lovey is a white lamb that he strokes the ears of very gently. I was hoping it would be a blanket my dear friend made for him...I try to rotate things so he stays attached to several things...(since I don't know where this white lamb came from)...:)...

Here's a picture of Ling: http://www.chinasprout.com/store/DPL003.html

We have one for Mia too and I plan to take it to China with us since it's so soft.

Did you know Ling also has a brother/friend? http://www.chinasprout.com/store/DPL004.html

Of all the toys and blankies on the planet, my kids have all been crazy about Sock Monkeys. Yes, the ones that are made out of gray socks with red heels. Very fun to chew on, soft enough to cuddle with, and they can be thrown in the wash with the rest of the laundry.

I have photos of all 3 of my little ones snuggling with a sock monkey at different ages. I still can't believe they've all treasured these silly toys! But it is very cute! :)

DS's lovey is a blankie - fat quarter of a yard of flannel fabric he picked out (Mickey & Pluto, very colorful) that I overlocked the edge on. I made 2, one to wash, one to use. He allows & usually insists on getting his "clean" bankie each week on wash day. They are developing a couple holes now that I have to fix soon, but have been in service for almost 3 years now.

Angela's first lovey was a powerpuff doll that her mom gave her( I have no idea why since its terribly ugly)...the head is the size of a football with a tiny body hanging off of it. Her natural mom thought it best to just let the body fall off so she just had the head...I dont think so...needless to say Powerpuff has been sewen a few times and now even has a new dress....luckily she pretty much stays in bed now. Thank goodness!...Her current lovey which she has had for a while now is a Harry Potter rag doll. I think he is cute he is just the right size and nice and floppy. She is also getting to the stage where any doll will do for the day, doll and blanket...but when she is really upset and tired its "Where's Harry!"

Joshua has a little dog "Ruffy" that he became attached to during our move to Alaska. Now Ruffy goes everywhere. Even the daycare lets Ruffy stay on the cot for naptimes. It's so sweet to see a boy and his dog.
