View Full Version : OT--Where in the world do you all buy picture frames?

Gah! I just wanted to buy some frames to make a family picture wall and a different set of frames for my office (so I won't be entirely desolate when i go back to work in Sept).
In any case, I'm a cheap skate. I tried Ross and TJ Maxx but my level of tolerance for nicks and chips in the wood is evidently not high enough. All of their frames looked like they had been dropped from the 6th floor of a building. Then I went to Kohls. Never in my existance have i gone there without the darn frames being 40-50% off. Except for TODAY. No sale. They were IMO ridiculously expensive.
Then I went to Target. Not as bad, but really a horrid selection.
Anyone have any ideas? I got frames suitable for my office, but nothing for my home family wall. I want to do silver colored frames and dark wood frames (like a walnut or dark cherry).

WHY do some stores insist on carrying frames without cardboard around them to protect them or at least some plastic! Every frame I picked up at Target a few weeks ago had a few nicks and chips--- soo frustrating!
I've been getting most of my frames from Michael's, a discount craft supply store. I don't know how big of a chain they are, but they have a pretty good selection, if there's one near you, you might try there. Also, you might give one of the department stores a go, my mom somehow, manages to find the nicest frames at Macy's for 50-70% off all the time.

I'd go back to Kohls this weekend if I were you. I have shopped around quite a bit and have found the best prices at Kohls (when they are 50% off, which they almost always are). The next best place I've found price-wise is JC Penney. However, the selection is pretty limited. I have looked at other department stores (Lazarus and Kaufmanns) but have found them to be more expensive even during sales compared to the same frames on sale at Kohls. Target has some inexpensive frames if you want basic wooden ones, but you have to really look them over and I am very particular. Most recently, I bought some 8x10 Malden wooden frames at BRU for $10 a piece.

I get a lot of mine from Bed, Bath and Beyond. I use their 20% or $5 off coupons that come in the mail every other week or so.

Do you have a Tuesday Morning near you? I've gotten some great deals there. Also, if you happen to be in the midwest - Gordmans has a huge selection and they are very reasonable.
Good luck!

I was going to suggest Michael's too. I've caught some great sales there! I also watch the Department stores for sales on frames.

What a good idea! I never know what to do with those coupons - I always think, well, I don't need a blender or sheets or anything...

Several weeks ago wen I was looking for 26 frames to frame a set of alphabet cards that I'd gotten for Lola's room I ended up finding some attractive black metal frames for 50% off at A.C. Moore craft store. I ended up paying $3 a piece for them and was very pleased.
When I posted here looking for suggestions of places to find inexpensive frames, the two places most mentioned were Michael's craft stores and Christmas Tree shops. A couple of people also suggested trying my local dollar store.
IKEA, but they are very basic.

Michael's was my suggestion too - they have tons of frames (and often have them on sale 40-50% off, plus they have their weekly coupon). All of Colin's portraits are framed in inexpensive oak frames from Michael's!

Hey Joey!
I found some really nice ones in (of all places!) KMart. They have the Martha Stewart Everyday ones mostly all under $10.
HomeGoods is a good place to look, as is, believe it or not, Pottery Barn.
Sometimes they have good clearance ones at www.exposuresonline.com.
My favorite place though is Bed Bath and Beyond.
Hope that helps!

I have two photo walls, and I'm cheap about frames, but I get complimented on both, so I think that means no one can tell they're cheap frames!
One wall is made up of gold metal box frames (they stand out about an inch), and they accomodate 4x6 photos. I got them all at Meijer's, and depending on the sale, I got them from $6-9 each, and as my Dh says, we have maaaaannnnnnnnyyyyy of them. I also got some three picture frames that match the Meijer's type exactly from Pier One, on clearance. I use those in the hall above that wall....
The other frames are in the study, and the wall is all black and white photos. I have different sizes, from 8x10 and down, but they are all in the cheapest black edged metal frames I could find, at Bed Bath and Beyond. I think I paid something like $5 for the largest ones.
I hit picture frame nirvana at CVS a few weeks ago. I found the same brand of frames that I used from BBB in a clearance bin for .99 each. I filled one of those little red shopping baskets full of them, so now I'm good to fill the rest of the wall out, and expand! ;-)
