I don't remember an uproar over the doll. Dh and I were looking at it a month ago at TRU. Have you seen the G-Mom and G-Dad dolls that make up the rest of the family?

I saw the commercial on tv for this doll just the other day, but I haven't heard any news on it. It made me laugh though...kind of like "what will they think of next?" The grandparent dolls are cute - Barbie with grey hair! Although I don't think anyone's grandmom looks quite like the doll - at least mine never did! But then again, I don't look like Barbie either.

The dolls I find DISGUSTING are those "Bratz" dolls--have you seen them?? They're apparently all the rage, and they wear these skanky clothes and look like tramps.

THAT frightens me--not little Midge in her maternity dress!

Oh I agree with you!!!! I HATE those Bratz dolls and it scares me that DD will soon be the right age for them!

I remember the uproar about the pregnant Midge a year or so ago. WalMart may not carry them, but Target and TRU have plenty!

I can't believe this particular doll was a problem, when they have the above mentioned Bratz dolls (DH cringes when he sees these things!) and "Boudior" Barbie (my name, not theirs) in lingerie from last year out there!

Yes -- those things are horrible! My niece got a few for her last birthday (4). Yikes!

Sounds like a job for the Barbie Liberation Front to me. ;)

I had a Skipper doll (Barbie's younger sister). When you cranked her arm, her boobs grew.

oh now we are talking about one of my favorite subjects! (you all probably guessed that I collect Barbies, I have nearly 1500 of them)

There wasn't much of an uproar over it. Mattel likes to create controversy to drum up business. :) WalMart does not carry the pregnant doll, you can buy the same doll there with the baby and everything, she just doesn't have the tummy. Other stores are selling the pregnant one just fine.

The grandparent dolls are cool. Trivia: the face of the grandmother doll is the same face Mattel used for the Marlena Evans (a soap star) doll from a few years ago, so if it looks a little familiar, that's why!

jeanne, that is hilarious! i never heard about it. i love the attached article from the san diego paper with this excerpt:

When Zachariah was asked whether he wanted Santa to take back the feminine Joe,
he responded sharply, "No way."

"I love him. I like everything about him," he said as he and three neighborhood
friends played with the doll. "He's teaching me not to fight."

Out of idle curiosity, how do you store 1500 Barbies?

I have a friend in California with several hundred and I was amazed at that!

They had their own room until Logan came along. I had floor to ceiling shelves on all walls, and the closet was full. Now they are in bins and on a shelf in my family room until we turn the storage room into the new Barbie room. Unless I decide to make it a play room, and then they stay in bins.

It took the full 9 months to get them packed up and stored. Hubby was painting the walls and setting up the crib while I was in labor. :)

Do you collect the Barbies dressed in one-of-a-kind outfits? I had a link once to a site that displayed these, but I lost it. If you have a couple of links, would you send them to me?

Thanks!

I know we couldn't find it last year at Christmas, due to the hub bub with Walmart. We did find them in time for dd's birthday though. Wanted to point out that Midge has a Husband- Allen sold with son Ryan who by the way comes in his own stroller with daddy pushing him, lol. And doctor Barbie completes the set. ;-) They are one of dd's favorite toys, although DS tends to disappear with the Allen doll from time to time.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this doll! I have thought about getting the whole family for Daria in another year or so. I'm not big on barbie in general but this set is a bit different then cheerleader barbie LOL.

I agree with everyone else's opinions on those bratz dolls and I don't like those myscene barbies either! I had seen them in the nickjr. magazine holiday toy guide last year and I complained to the editor that for a preschool mag they could have come up with a better toy to advertise. I don't find the myscene or bratz dolls appropriate for any age but certainly not preschool. (off my soapbox now :+)
