I'm starting to get a bit concerned about this. I am exclusively breastfeeding my child so I knew my cycle wouldn't start again right away, but it's been 4 months now. I'm beginning to wonder if I might need to turn another bedroom into a nursery.

Has anyone else had a similar (or longer) time with no periods?
I'm scared to take a pregnancy test!

We're usually very careful, but there were 2 times recently that we weren't so careful.

You'll find it varies for everyone, but to reassure you a bit: Nate's nearly 10-months-old and my cycles still have not returned. I remember feeling so tired at 4-months post-partum that I swore I was PG (I wasn't). Just remember that you ovulate before you get your period, so unless you want to be pregnant again soon, take precautions.

I wouldn't worry - I didn't get mine until 7 months. Some people don't get them back for a year or more. Do you have other symptoms? I think it is perfectly normal to be worried about getting pregnant again. If you're REALLY afraid, though, take a test - it will do wonders for your peace of mind!

Sounds pretty normal from what others on this board have reported. I delivered 5/20/03 and it returned on 10/23/03.

DD is 8 months old and I just had my first period. I don't think it's all that unusual to go this long. According to the La Leche League's web site:
"Most breastfeeding mothers will resume their periods between 6 months and 2 years after their baby's birth."

A pg test might be a good idea just for peace of mind, but I wouldn't start redecorating yet!

Colin was exclusively bf'd to 6 months, and has been bf'd + solids since then (and he's been a big solids eater since about 8 months).

AF (Aunt Flo :-) ) returned one week before his first birthday.

I SO hear you! I am 7+ months post-partum and haven't gotten it yet. I have been really, really tired lately and the pregnancy thought entered my mind. Or maybe it's PMS!

I got mine at 5 months...it should have been longer!

I didn't get mine back until we fully weaned at 13 months, so I wouldn't worry too much.

I am 3 months postpartum and no period yet. My Dr said that as long as I breastfeed exclusively, I am not likely to get it. When I start feeding DS some solids (6 mo or so), then I will likely start ovulating. She did admit that every woman is different, but that it's rare for a woman to get her period if she's bf'ing on demand (every 2-3 hrs or so). But just in case you're in the minority, you might want to get a pregnancy test :)

With my first I didn't get my period back until after he weaned at around 13 months. I expect the same this time, almost 8 months and no period yet. I love it! If I plan this right, I can get pregnant before I have a period and then by the time I wean the next one I will be in menopause. No more periods forever is my goal. :)

It was 7 months here. I think I've heard that once the baby starts getting solids (typically around 6 months), periods are more likely to resume. That was my case. It doesn't make sense to me, because he was still very much a BF baby up until 11 months. We took a looooong time introducing solids, and even longer before they could be considered meals.

Oh, and I only had AF visit three times before I was preggo again...I thought I had chronic fatigue syndrome for a few weeks!! :)

Returned when DD was 16 months. DS was 18 months when it finally showed up. Honestly I wouldn't panic although stranger things have happened. :^)

I'm 7.5 months pp and still no visit from Aunt Flo! It's great, actually. I realized that my LMP was in June 2002.
We are actually planning to TTC in a few months, so I may be able to minimize my periods for even longer.

Are you sure you want it back???!!! LOL. I'm almost 7 months PP and I just got mine yesterday. It came back with a vengence! I did spot a few times, but now I know it's really here. ACK!

I may be jinxing myself, but it's been 15 mos for me. maybe I can thank the twins? I've heard there's such a huge range, anywhere from 2 mos to 2 years... i guess it's up to miss mother nature herself.
