I know you posted earlier this week that he was not exactly in love with it. Has it become any easier for him? In searching around online, I found a website called www.allergyasthmatech.com that has a children's treatment mask called Nic the Dragon. It's very cute - I am considering ordering some for Kasey, now that we have to use the nebulizer every day. I hope Gannon is doing better - we are not exactly in love with the nebulizer over here, too!

Hi Lauren, I missed this!! Actually, I was trying to find the original thread last night, but it's buried at this point!

I called the ped, and she prescribed Flovent. I have to give it to him through a mask/mouth piece/chamber/tube thingy. (I still have to pick it up.) I guess the kids aren't too fond of this either, but it only requires 5-6 breaths before the treatment is in. That's good, because it cuts down on the time factor.

We shall see how it goes!! Thanks for asking! :)

Hi, Joanne!
Let me know how the Flovent goes. Right now, we are doing pulmicort daily through the nebulizer and we add albuterol when Kasey seems really bad. She also takes Singulair and Zyrtec daily. Unfortunately, nothing really seems to help with her symptoms and we she is having a really bad asthma episode, we need to do oral steroids. It's very frustrating. Our specialist has not mentioned Flovent yet so if that works well for Gannon, perhaps I will see what she thinks. Good luck with Gannon and enjoy the reat of your pregnancy while you are only chasing one around!

I should have mentioned that the ped said that Flovent was NOT as effective as the Pulmicort. It sounds like Kasey has a more severe case of asthma than Gannon, poor thing!...Actually, he hasn't even been diagnosed yet because I guess you have to x number of incidents in y amount of time to qualify. The Pulmicort is used to prevent him from having a REALLY bad time of it when he gets sick, and it does seem to be working (ie, no trips to the ER when he gets a sniffle). We also have to use albuterol when he gets really bad, but so far have only needed it twice since starting all of this about a year ago. We've had to do oral steroids once, as the ped is very hesitant to use them. Not that they're bad, but I guess you don't want to pound their already compromised systems, you know?

I'm guessing your specialist didn't suggest Flovent because it probably won't do enough for Kasey...I'm not sure it will work for Gannon even, but at this point any medicine is better than no medicine.

Good luck with everything! I tried to find that mask, but couldn't. I hope Kasey feels better! :)

Hi, Joanne!
When you click on the website, click on compressors/nebulizers - the mask is at the bottom of that page. We have never had to go the ER (knock on wood) although we came close with her most recent episode a few seeks ago. I am not crazy about the steroids, too, but so far it has been the only thing to truly help her. Isn't this fun???!!! Good luck!
