Hi. I wanted to announce the arrival of our new baby, Joshua David, born on 11/16 at 7:35 p.m. Our little bundle, born at 35 weeks, 6 days, weighed in at 5 lbs., 4 oz. and was 17 inches. He is doing fairly well, although had some trouble maintaining his sugar level and temp. in the hospital. He was discharged with me, but is now being treated for jaundice under a bili blanket.

The short version of the birth story--I was induced due to low amniotic fluid level after presenting at L & D triage for contractions on Sat. night. The induction was painful but went really well--started at 10:00 a.m. and he was born just 7 1/2 hours later after 1 hr. 20 of pushing. Our first son was born via c-section, so this was a new experience for me. I have to say labor and the induction was a rough as the c-sections and the first 48 hours recovery was painful too. Now, at 5 days post-partum, I definitely am noticing the difference and feel much better and much more mobile.

Big brother Jack is having an expected adjustment reaction (lots of temper tantrums and crabbiness, esp. when with dh and me--he does better for his nanny and grandparents and uncle). He is, however, very loving with the baby, which I see as a good sign.

We're tired and feeling pretty battered at the moment with all that's going on but are very happy.

Just wanted to share our news here.

Thanks for the nice welcome messages. I'm touched that so many took the time to write back when I have been less than a consistent poster.

I think I'm going to print out all of the replies for Joshua's baby book (if I don't at least start collecting stuff for it, he'll be your typical second child without a book because mama's running around without a second to herself).

At any rate, we're all hanging in there. Joshua's bilirubin (sp?) came down and he was taken off phototherapy. He is learning (slowly) to nurse. Right now, I feel like a pumping machine--trying to do every 3 hours, but I wind up missing now and again.

I was going to send you an email to your personal account but since I'm at work and purusing the boards - don't tell our boss! :)...Let me know if you need any moral support for the "pumping machine". You know I've been there! Joshua is beautiful and I look forward to visiting him, you and Jack just as soon as your up to it. Congrats again.
