I've never made one before. I am looking at the can of pumpkin and noticing that it asks for an "unbaked 9 inch (4 cup volume) deep dish pie shell" Well, I already bought 3 frozen "regular" pie shells.

Questions:

Do I need deep dish?
When they say "unbaked" do I put it in the still-frozen pie crust?

TIA!

If the recipe calls for a deep dish pie crust and you have a regular size one, then the baking time will be incorrect. If you follow the directions for the deep dish pie, you will overcook your pie.

The crust package should tell you if it baked or not. It is probably NOT baked. You need to bake the crust ahead of time with some pies (like pumpkin) or else the moisture from the filling will make the crust soggy.

You can still use the regular pie shells but you might have extra filling and you will have to bake it for less time, hth.
