OT: I received AWESOME news today!

I received AWESOME news today.

Let me preface this by saying that I have PCOS and I was told that I am unable to ovulate on my own. DH & I recently sought the advice of our RE in terms of conceiving our next child and he wanted to do IVF. We have strong objections to that and have been considering adoption.
He put me on a medication called glucophage (brand name - metformin) which is given to type 2 diabetes patients. I began taking it and after awhile, felt kind of crampy. It is my understanding that some PCOS patients regain their cycle after glucophage treatments.

I woke up today in a serious amount of pain. I was convinced that I had a cyst or a UTI. Called the dr and was told to come in. DH & I went and waited 1 hour in the exam room. Yes, I had my naked behind waiting for 1 hour. The RE came in and did an ultrasound. He said, "Oh, looks like you are going to ovulate." WHAT?????????????????? OVULATE????????????????????

Basically, I have a 15mm follicle that is looking really ripe. He thinks it is going to drop an egg over the next 7 days. I am in disbelief and happiness. The meds are working for me!

I just wanted to share with everyone how excited I am. Despite if it happens this cycle, I am happy to know that it is a possibility without being poked and going through invasive procedures. I guess I just needed a "jumpstart" as DH likes to refer to it as....

And I know what you mean about being happy that something good is happening. It took me awhile to get pregnant and just when my doctor started running tests I got pregnant on my own. Sad to say that I miscarried early but I was thrilled to know I could get pregnant. And now I have the sweetest little boy.

Great news Melissa!

I have PCOS also. I did the metformin and we can't say if I benefitted from it or not, because after I went off it (it just wrecked my stomach - I was eating Immodium day and night), I went onto Pergonal.

After my second IUI, I conceived Sophie and her brother.

Did they say anything about giving you an HcG shot to drop the egg or are they just going to see if it releases on its own?

He wants to see if it drops on its own. My Dr almost seemed annoyed that this was happening on its own. He & I had some words yesterday and he understands now that we want this all to be as least invasive as possible. DH has an excellent count and we were on timed intercourse when we conceived Matthew. I was doing gonal-f injections and an hcg shot. We are going to see where glucophage takes us. :)

I'm so thrilled for you. I am going to see a new RE on Wedesday. I would've stayed with my old one, but since we are moving, I just can't fathom a 45-60min drive for those early morning blood draws. At least the new one is 1/4mi. from my new house!

I'm hoping they will let me pick up where I "left off" and not start all over again.

Here's to baby vibes for both of us!! :)
