Please pray for my friend's baby!

A friend from our preschool took her 13-month-old son to the eye doctor yesterday because she suspected that he had a "wandering eye". When they dilated his eye to look at it, the dr. discovered a tumor. The dr. made an appointment for them to see a pediatric specialist at Emory in Atlanta for this morning (less than 24 hours later!) and it was confirmed that he has a malignant tumor. He will have to have his eye removed and the surgery will be on Dec 29th. At that time (while he's sedated) they'll do additonal testing to see if it has spread any or to his other eye. This is so sad and scary! And, of course, his parents are devastated! They have 2 older sons and they are worried, too, about how they'll take it and how to explain everything. I'm just so terribly sad for them. I know they would appreciate any prayers that can be said!

Thank you all so much! I know that they will appreciate knowing that so many around the country (and world!) are praying!

I did hear last night that if they discover that it has spread to the other eye, they will cancel the surgery and start aggressive chemo to try to control it. I guess this is in an effort to save some sight. He has apparently already had diminished sight in the affected eye but is not completely blind in it yet.

I, too, am hoping they'll be able to enjoy the holidays as much as possible. Another friend talked to her yesterday afternoon and said that she had a gallows humor thing going on. I guess sometimes when you are so overwhelmed, it's just about all you can do.

I'm so sorry and sad to hear about this poor little guy. How devastating! This was something that we faced as a possibility when we discovered there was something in Tom's eye blocking his vision and I can't imagine how tough it must be on the parents. Please keep us updated.
