As many of you know I love my kitties but I know nothing about cats (I know dogs), so I need your help. Cinder (my huge, very confident cat that I got about 14 months ago) is sneezing a lot...a sneeze that almost sounds like she is coughing up a fur ball, in other words it goes on and on in a gagging sound...

Well she just sneezed and boogers came out of her little nose...
Do I wait it out since nothing cures our colds or could this be something...

Totally acting "normal"!!!

I hate to sound cheap but I am trying to avoid a huge vet bill...my vet bills could afford the average household a pretty nice car note a month!!!

BUT if I should take her in I'd have her there if needed I just am not convinced it is needed...

Help!!!

Oh my gosh--kitty boogers! That's hysterical!

My kitties get colds about once a year. As long as she's not off her chow or acting strangely, I don't think there's cause to worry. One thing to watch out for is if she starts getting kitty laryngitis--my George got a cold which turned into an upper respiratory infection which the vet said could be serious. We knew he had it because his really loud meow went away. A course of antibiotics (TONS of fun with a cat!) and he was fine.

I hope Cinder feels better soon.

Neve-your poor little kitty. When I lived in California my adorable Boo (he died 3 years ago) once got some desert grass or dune grass or something (have no idea what kind it was) up his poor little nose. He sneezed constantly for 24 hours. It was so sad. I finally took him into the vet and they sedated him to examine his nose and it was basically all out but very irritated. The vet thought that his sneezing got it out. I might be concerned that the boogers are a sign of infection. Are they clear or yellowy and more like pus? If it is yellowy and looking like pus I would definately take him in. Otherwise I might be tempted to wait it out. Boo also pawed at his nose alot when this happened.
Has Cinder had her shots? I think the other thing to worry about with kitties and sneezing is feline distemper. (I think) I know there is something like that. Boy, I'm a vague bit of help, huh?

Sounds like Cinder caught a bit of a cold! Poor thing! I think you can avoid the vet for now. Hopefully, it will clear up on it's own. Kitty diagnosing can be tricky since they tend to be stalwarts in their suffering. They all must have a Mommy gene in them! If she's acting normal, I wouldn't worry.

I might have missed the news, how's Schooner doing? We hope he's feeling all better.

One of my cats gets a cold every year. I'm not sure where she gets it because both of my kitties are completely indoor so I wonder if human colds are contagious to cats. Anyways, we never took her to the vet. She basically sneezed a lot and had a wet nose (any boogers were clear). I would keep an eye on her and if she starts getting real goopy around the eyes or nose, take her in. If she's eating/drinking/going potty/acting normally than it sounds like a cold or maybe an irritation. Even a little bug bite on their nose can drive them crazy - one time one of my cats got bit by an ant and she was sneezing like crazy for a day.

Hope your fur baby is feeling better soon!

You are so sweet to ask...Schooner did very well after his surgery and I put him on a special diet (that Cinder bullies him over)...but we have noticed over the past three or so weeks that he resumes to pee on items left in the floor to Tristan's play room (which is the bonus room of the house that actually was his before). So I do think he had a medical issue with the stones, but now I think he has an attitude to him in pee'ing on quilts or anything left on the floor there....

As long as I keep those things up he appears fine, thank god he does not pee on everything left in the floor at my house that could be horrific-more is on the floor than shoud be!!! :)

But it always something...now I tempted to bring home this dog that surfaced in our neighborhood and no one is claiming at the SPCA but there is always something medical going on with these guys...

Poor kitty! I would say if the boogers (!!!) are clear then you are probably fine watching and waiting. But if they continue to come out and turn greenish or even dark yellow I would say a visit to the vet is in order. Could be some kind of infection. We had one (outdoor) cat that had some kind of constant sinus infection with green boogers all the time. Really gross! The vet gave us antibiotics a couple of times but it never cleared up, he had them constantly for probably 2 years!

Can't say for sure in your case, but when our cats have had the sniffles or a cold, and one even had a terrible virus that caused a snotty nose for months, none of the local vets, including the specialists, could do a thing for him. We just waited it out and spent a lot of money to hear, "We're not sure what the problem is." Frustrating. Hope Cinder feels better soon!
