What a great week this has been.

We used to spend one to two hours each night getting Patrick to fall asleep enough that we could put him down in his crib without waking up. After about an hour or two, he would wake up and DW would have to go pick him up and rock him back to sleep. This would continue until DW would usually give up on the process and bring him to bed with us for the rest of the night.

Then back in August, it was time to remove bumpers AND Patrick was going through some major teething. We could not get him to sleep in his crib and we would give up and bring him to bed with us. So from August thru December, Patrick sleep with us for one reason or another (teething, sick, just couldn't get him to sleep, etc).

We finally decided something was going to have to change and we were going to begin with the start of the new year. The first night we tried to place him in his crib and let him "cry-it-out", but Patrick was able to outlast mommy. Since he was so used to sleeping in our bed, we decided to move the crib and try placing him on an extra twin mattrise we had. That met with some success so the next day, we dismantled the crib and permenantly replaced it with the mattrise. For the next two nigths, DW had to spend the night with Patrick in his new bed. But starting with Monday night, we tried for an hour to get him to sleep before we just left him "locked" in his room (child gate accross the door). After about 5 minutes of crying, he went to his bed and went to sleep, sleeping through the night without anyone having to put him back to sleep. Last night, we did our standard bed-time routine, tried to get him to sleep for only 10 minutes before leaving. This time, he cried for only a couple of minutes before going to sleep, and once again, slept til morning.
