Questions to ask potential babysitters???

DD is 14 months old and I'm starting to think about hiring a sitter on occasion (we have always been able to use friends or family so far). I have gathered some names from friends but now what? I feel like I should ask the sitters questions prior to hiring them but I'm not sure what to ask. I looked at the book "Protecting the Gift..." for ideas but most were aimed towards those hiring a nanny. Any thoughts?
