Today was my husband's last day of work. He resigned from the firm where he has worked for the last ten years to start his own business. He has needed to do this for a long time, and I'm excited for him. It's also incredibly scary to give up a guaranteed income. In these last few days, though, he's landed seven jobs right out of the starting gate, and I've never doubted that he'll do really well. But any positive vibes you want to send our way will be gladly received! :)

lots of new business vibes...

One job ago my boss left the old firm to open his own shop, and I went with him. It was scary, but exhilarating...It went very well, 3 yrs later he is still going strong!!!

Best of luck in the new venture! I really admire your DH for taking the leap, and you for being so supportive. I have to admit that when DD was only a month or two old and I hadn't yet decided whether I was returning to work, my DH was feeling a little unsure about staying at his current firm and he and friends talked loosely about going out on their own and I about had a heart attack! I wish now that I had been more supportive (he has since decided to stay where he is because things improved significantly soon afterward). I think it is amazing that you are backing your DH up so completely and it sounds like this is going to be an exciting and prosperous new step! Good luck!

Rachel --

Just wanted to say congratulations on taking such a brave step! I know what it's like -- DH started his own business shortly before DS was born. It has been a very exciting (and at times, scary) adventure! DH works many more hours than he did before, but he LOVES what he does. I now have a much happier husband.

Starting a business can be very hard at times, but by now we're much better at rolling with the inevitable disappointments that happen along the way. So I just want to encourage you to keep the faith during the difficult times and know that that it will get easier! It is absolutely worth all of the hard work! :)

Congratulations! And keep us updated. :)

He's an architect. He does residential and commercial stuff. The firm he just left did only commercial, but I LOVE his houses! Here's a link to one if you'd like to see:

Thanks, everyone, for your warm wishes!
