We received the First Years Near and Clear 2.4 Ghz baby monitor for review and have used it for several weeks now.
The results of our testing are below:
Battery life: Excellent, we used the receiver for 2+ weeks on a single charge of the rechargeable batteries.
Range: Excellent, we had no problems with the device's range.
Sound quality: Very good, it picks up every sound, and the clarity is high.
Interference: Good, we did pick up someone’s' telephone conversation once, and occasional hisses and pops. When we used our microwave the interference level was very high, the sound from the receiver was very loud. As our second child was born recently, we have been using this monitor plus a Fisher Price monitor (one for each child's rooms). We haven't noted any interference between the monitors.
General comments: This is a good quality monitor, with great range, clarity and battery life. It does have a few interference issues, and like some other reviewers have mentioned, it occasionally will activate the locator alarm on the parent unit, which is very loud, annoying and distressing when it goes off without warning. It sounded something like the noise a large piece of equipment makes when it is backing up. I would recommend it for those who have a need for a long-range, high quality monitor. Thanks to the Fields for allowing us to test this monitor! We plan to continue using it.
