I just got done talking with my most dear friend from college. She was calling me from NYU Medical Center. She's a little more than 18 weeks along and had been having severe migraines, back pain etc... then she started throwing up etc. So she had to go to the hospital. She eventually got hooked up with an on the ball internist, who discovered she's had bleeding in her brain.

The good news is that the blood was all the same age, so it appears that she bleed once and hasn't since, which is good, but they are still unable to identify what caused it to start with. So they can't treat it. She's been in the hospital and is scared out of her mind. She's had an MRI and CT scan and now they are talkign about doing an angio--umm I can't remember the word... it's the radio-active dye and intense x-ray thing of her head. She's afraid it's going to hurt the baby, but not doing it could result in more bleeding, which would also hurt the baby.

She's at the stage where all of the experts are not agreeing, so she knows nothing and is just scared.

They've been trying for a baby for a while, and this is seemingly so glum. If the worst happens it will be heart-breaking. Any good thoughts and prayers you can send to my dear Anne, i would appreciate.

Best wishes and blessings to your dear Anne, how horrible for her! I hope that the 'experts' have a flash of inspiration, or failing that, that her body can heal itself. I'll be thinking of her and her family!

A friend of a friend's wife is at 13 weeks and at her last US they couldn't find the heartbeat- it turns out the wee one was hiding behind the placenta, thank god. I hope that your Anne has a similarly benign outcome to a horribly scary and stressful experience.

My family's thoughts and parayers are with her and her family. Our babies are due about the same time and I can't imagine her fear for both herself and her child.

Yes, she is. I'm surprised you noticed that. She's a very special friend to me. The hardest part of all this is understanding how much danger her own life could be in. It has not been a good day.

Thanks to you Elizabeth and everyone else who has responded. I apprecite your support so much.

Good thoughts for your friend. NYU has a good neurosurgery/neurology program. I friend of mine is there. She should be in good hands. I'm sure she alread has one, but a high risk OB should be following her that can help her answer the questions about the baby. I've taken care of people with neurological injuries who are pregnant, and the babies do fine.
