I got a pretty sun flower last year as it was dying from our SPCA. I brought the whole flower home and it has been drying for several months.

Well today Mr Squirrel, which blows my mind having 3 dogs, was on my porch eating it!!!!!

So when do I plant it...will it result....
Any suggestions....
I'll head tot he internet and search if no one knows but thought someone here might....
Thanks

Oddly enough, when I was younger, we thre out the litter from my Guinea pig & some sunflower seeds were in there & they grew! I don't think they would be that hard.

Neve, You might also check out the gardening board at Better Homes & Gardens, they are pretty helpful there.

I've got tons pooping up in the yard from the bird feed. I'll email you later with what we did.

It depends. :)

If the sunflower is not a bybrid or a genetically modified one, then you should be able to get flowers from the seeds. But if its a hybrid, then the seeds may be sterile or they may produce a plant that is not like the "mother" plant.

How deep do you plant I would assume deep but then they just appear at times so then I wonder if you barely plant...

The sunflower birdseed we put out tends to result in some ugly, short sunflowers, but my point in telling you that, is that they just fall on the ground and may get scratched around by the birds. They are not buried deeply. Also, when I bough real seeds for planting sunflowers, I believe I just stuck my finger in the ground, put in the seed and covered it back up. Not deep.
