ETA: I figured out how to get them all to 99% and the IQ to 99. I changed one choice and voila, I'm rescued but still protected from the elements.

A sextant is a navigational device containing a 60 degree arc used to measure altitude of celestial bodies so that Longitude and Latitude can be ascertained.

There is a scene in Master and Commander where the young yeoman are being given a lesson in how to use a sextant. Interestingly its use is no longer taught at the Naval Academy in Annapolis because of their reliance on GPS navigation.
