My 5 year old Birkenstocks had to be retired after the dog chewed them up (my fault for leaving them in the kitchen with him when we went out). Granted, they were pretty old - almost no cork left on the heels, actually.

So I bought a pair of Merrell sandals at Nordstrom (see picture). But decided the color was too drab for me and didn't like the other ones they had at the store (although I noticed that they have a nice blue one online).

Exchanged it for a different pair of Merrell thong sandals (the blue ones in the picture). I've never had thong sandals before. Do you get used to it? Not sure if I should make myself just get used to it or not. It feels weird sometimes, like having a permanent toe "wedgie."

So, do I just get used to wearing the thong ones? Or am I forcing myself to like them just b/c it's such a hassle?

Should I order a pair online and see how that goes?

Anyone have a pair of comfy sandals that they would recommend? I decided against another pair of Birkenstocks b/c I didn't want to deal with having to break them in.

Thanks. I don't know what I want/should do, so need some level-headed folks to help me. See, this is why I never buy anything for myself and spend all my money buying clothes and shoes for DD!

I had the top pair last yera and WORE THEM OUT, I loved them so much. I don't like things between my toes, so I don't like the second ones. But my MIL has those and loves them.

I just bought a pair of new sport sandals for me for this year. They are called High Tide and I love them! I have them in a gray/blue.

I used to HATE having stuff between my toes, so I never thought I'd be a flip-flop kind of girl. Then last year I got a cute pair at Old Navy and forced myself to wear them. It didn't take that long to get used to them, and now I LOVE them. And I've gone from 1 pair to 6. So, it does take some 'breaking in' but now they are comfortable. Good luck!

Well on the thongs, i'd go with no, their either for you or not, my mother for instance is a not LOL...she claims her toes are too close together :o

Anyhow depending upon what type of sandal your after, i had these last year and loved them

ETA: Darn link won't work, maybe this will it's a listing to the brand and styles they carry.

I wore them out, i still need to get my "new" pair this year...

Clarks are a good option, i have had their sandals before and their comfy, or dansko clogs make some styles, my mother loves her clogs by them, if your after sports like sandals...teva is good, i have a pair of thong/flip-flops by them super squishy ;)

I've tried a few merrel but found they didn't suit my feet..

Good luck and i agree way easier to buy for the kiddo's :D

The best sandals, IMHO, are Clark's. They're available at most stores now and they are the most comfortable shoes ever! They are so comfortable (and look nice too--I wear them to teach) that I wore them throughout my pregnancy! I can even wear them for a brisk/speed walk. I highly recommend them (they make great clogs too).

Oh, I'm a freak about my sandals. I'm normally a birk girl too, but I've been branching out as of late.

For sporty sandals, I SWEAR by my Chaco z/1's. You can get them at REI (and a host of other stores, I imagine) and they are truly fabulous. There are some copies out there these days (apparently the Chaco people didn't patent their design), but there are nothing compared to the genius of the Chaco.

For a kind of casual, but dressier than a sport sandal, I just got these wonderful Dansko Lolita sandals at Nordstroms. I love them. They are so comfortable and I can wear them all day and I never trip or anything...

Hey I have Chacos!!!

I've never seen anybody else with them!!! I got them at Paragon sports about five years ago.

Even wore them in Florence when all my other shoes were killing me.

Looked like a dumb American, but I was comfy!

I just ordered two pair of Dansko sandals from nordstrom.com. I'm hoping they will be as great as my big ugly Dansko clogs...we'll see!

These are the Danskos I ordered. I figured I need a slide since I won't be reaching my feet for long...
