Is this a girl thing? a 14 month old thing? just generally to torture me thing? But girlfriend squeals and screeches like a banshee while she plays... it is ear splitting.. is this a phase... please say yes! If not, is there any possible way to get her to express her delight a few decibles lower?

Uh, no. As my brother once astutely put it, it's a unisexual thing. (Yes, yes he did.)

Have no idea how to curtail it. Still have bleeding ears here as well.

Been there! Still sometimes there, in fact. This girl could shatter windows. At the same time, it's fun to see her enjoying herself so completely. Pretty soon she'll have all kinds of conventions put on how she can express her emotions, so for the time being I try to just cover my ears when necessary. But yikes, it's LOUD.

Love your avatar, by the way!

Oh my, how often that has happened around here.

With us, the boys started earlier, but the girls did it for longer. ;-)

Definitely not just a girl thing. My guy, in fact, started at 10 mos. He has certain places that he particularly likes to exercise his vocal chords in, I think for the delightful cavernous echo that they can produce. C also likes to do it when I'm removing him from some particularly fun thing like gnawing on an electrical cord ... ;)

Oh, Matthew does this...very well. He's been doing it since January and although he doesn't do it very often, we still call him "Pterodactyl Baby" since it sounds like something right out of Jurassic Park.

Jake is younger than Sara, but I can assure you that it is not a girl thing! I do hope it is a phase!

LOL - Anwyn doesn't shreik often, but when she does, dh and/or I generally shreik right along with her! I did have to stop dh from riling her up in a restaurant the other night, though. LOL
