View Full Version : An open letter to the men in my family

If you could all arrange for your hearts to beat normally and keep you out of the hospital, that would be dandy. Last month it was Clay; tonight it's my dad.

I'm scared. He hasn't had a heart attack, but his EKG is somewhat abnormal. They're going to keep him overnight and do a stress test and possibly a heart catheterization tomorrow, then go from there. If the stress test is normal, they'll send him home. But he has diabetes and a somewhat unreliable blood pressure, so this isn't exactly a risk-free scenario. I'm pretty freaked out.

Rachel, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. We will keep him and the rest of your family in our prayers. Sending happy-heartbeating thoughts your way.

Oh, and we'll try to keep down on the posts that are giving you stress. In the long run all this petty stuff doesn't matter and your family really does. Get lots of hugs from the baby and know we're all thinking about you tonight.

Oh no! It was only a month ago that Clay had that scare? It feels so much longer.

I hope your Dad's OK and home soon Rachel.

Jodi, thank you. What a kind thing to say. But you're not giving me stress. :) Really, I greatly appreciate the chance for civil discussion. Part of what I celebrate about this country is each citizen's right to his or her opinion, KWIM? Expressing them doesn't stress me out, whether or not I agree with what's being said. When things start sounding like personal attacks, that's stressful, of course, but I think that most people have been very careful not to let that happen, even when they've disagreed strongly. I admire that.

And I appreciate the thoughts and prayers very much.

I remember when it was your DH, I'm sorry your going through something like this again with your dad. I can somewhat understand how hard it is & I'm praying that things will turn out OK.

Big hugs to you Rachel.. i hope everything turns out just fine. Just the thought of something being medically wrong with my parents brings instant tears to my eyes (both my parents have diabetes).. so I can understand somewhat what you might be going through.. stay strong mama! I will be thinking of you.

Rachel,

My dad just had a heart attack last month, so I truly know what you are going through. Thank G-d, he is fine but it was so scary for about week. If you need an ear, please give a holler. Sending my love and good wishes for the men in your life...
