Avatar help! How do you you make it switch between 2 pics?

Do I need special software or what? Please advise, I am extremely technically challenged. :7

You basically have to make an animated gif.. there will be two frames with both pictures and a transition inbetween... and then it goes in an infinite loop. It is pretty easy if you have the software.. i have the freeware called GifBuilder that does it.
