This was fun awhile back.

If it is not some "kids" song you are singing, what are some songs that might be considered less than appropriate you have caught yourself singing, listening to in front of your child.

Lately it has been an OLD song by Tom Lehrer called Poisoning Pigeons in the Park. She just giggles when I sing along to that song. "Someday you are free, why don't you come with me and we'll poison the pigeons in the park".

A few others include:

Highway to H3ll - AC/DC
Give it to me - Rick James
I wanna Be your Lover - Prince

I will admit no matter inappropriate these songs are, it is pretty funny to watch Cocoa start to dance to some of them.

C'mon and make your confessions to almighty dog, what are some your "bad" songs.

Funny...I was just thinking about this. My sister and I recently went to see KISS and Poison in concert so it prompted me to pull out some of their CDs. Last night I was doing some unpacking and listening to Poison while DH gave Jackson a bath. When they came downstairs Jackson started dancing to 'Talk Dirty to Me' and 'I want Action Tonight'. It was too cute. Today he went and pointed at the stereo and started dancing wanting me to put the music back on. I put in a childrens songs CD and he wasn't happy so we jammed to Poison again this morning. Bad Mommy:)

Hmm. I listen to Top 40 radio when I'm driving, so she hears whatever song is on the radio.

But she has these egg shakers that whenever we're playing, I'll say/sing, "Shake, Shake, Shake; Shake, Shake, Shake; Shake Your Booty." (What song IS that from?!? For some reason it was in my head). A friend was over with her baby and pointed out that perhaps it wasn't really proper to teach my daughter to say "booty."

Especially since these days, she is definitely mimicking things that we say now. Argh. Need to start watching my occasional potty-mouth!

Hmm, I've been humming Gravedigger (Dave Mathews Band) a lot recently. Dark mood, I guess. It's not "dirty" just really sad lyrics

I don't feel bad. I went to a DMB concert when I was a few weeks pregnant, and fully expect to take DS along when we go to our next (probably this fall)

any number of Irish folk songs. (Fortunately, these are mostly innuendo.)

My husband alternates "Waltzing Matilda" with "Amazing Grace" when trying to get Isaac to sleep. (The former, for those who don't know the words, is a song about an outlaw.)

And my sister, who visited last week, just told me that our father sang her and our other sister to sleep every night with a complete rendition of "Jimmy Crack Corn." Apparently it was the only song he knew all the words to.

Well, this is lame of me, not really what you're asking for but strikes me odd/funny that I sing this to my new son..

The Mary Tyler Moore show theme! "You can turn the world on with your smile...you can take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile..." LOL :-)

And...

This is one I cannot help but sing loudly in the car.........

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by AC/DC

Concrete shoes, cyanide, TNT
Done Dirt Cheap
Neckties, contracts, high voltage
Done Dirt Cheap

If you're havin' trouble with your high school head
He's givin' you the blues
You wanna graduate but not in 'is bed [...but not in his debt]
Here's what you gotta do -
Pick up the phone
I'm always home
Call me any time
Just ring
36 24 36 hey [36 24 36 hey]
I lead a life of crime

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Dirty Deeds and they're Done Dirt Cheap

You got problems in your life of love
You got a broken heart
(She's) He's double dealin' with your best friend
That's when the teardrops start - fella
Pick up the phone
I'm here alone
Or make a social call
Come right in
Forget about him
We'll have ourselves a ball

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Dirty Deeds and they're Done Dirt Cheap

If you got a lady and you want her gone
But you ain't got the guts
She keeps naggin' at you night and day
Enough to drive you nuts -
Pick up the phone
Leave her alone
It's time you made a stand
For a fee
I'm happy to be
Your back door man

Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Dirty Deeds and they're Done Dirt Cheap

Concrete shoes, cyanide, TNT
Done Dirt Cheap
Neckties, contracts, high voltage
Done Dirt Cheap

A perfectly acceptable song when you need to shake it!!!!!

LOL we've been singing "Shake, shake, shake..." to our DD since she was little!! In fact, when DD was 13 months old my mother and sister were singing and cooking while they watched her (our first overnight trip away from her) and when we came home DD knew where to point when asked "where's your booty?"

Do you think "booty" is bad???? That's what we call it.....booty or buns : )

It's so silly, but Katherine LOVES show tunes. We think it may be because we were doing RAGTIME when I was first pregnant with her, (right after my mom died and we were worried we might lose her)and listening to that show always seemed to calm me down. It was like staying busy and stuff got me through the experience. Now, when Katherine is just angry and yelling, we pop the RAGTIME CD into the player and she calms right down. It is sooo sweet.

She also loves AVENUE Q, though, and I'm not sure what she may be learning from that. My particular favorites are "The internet is for porn" and "Everyone's a little bit racist." I tend to sing those alot.

Laura has an inexplicable fondness for Tom Jones songs, including "It's Not Unusual" and "Sex Bomb" (I laughed very hard at a semi-recent episode of "The Simpsons" that showed Maggie dancing to "Sex Bomb" in her crib).

Nathan loves when I chant the 80s song, "The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire..." Of course I leave out the F-word, but I still think it's a very weird thing to entertain a child with. I randomly sang it one day when he was crying and it immediately calmed him down. Hmmm....

I am frankly a terrible mom when it comes to music. Here is what is currently in the car and to which she is subjected during our commute:
Metallica/Iron Maiden (some times a girl just has to mosh)
Billie Holiday (I really don't want my DD growing up to think that a man can treat you like that)
Appalachian ballads (not a happy ending in any of them)
Classic Styx (okay, so maybe that's not too bad. . . )
Aaron Copeland (she favors Appalachian Spring)
And she proabably can already recite the lyrics to "You Shook Me All Night Long"
I don't even want to think about what I have sung to her. . . .the Rick James period leaps to mind.
She dances to Jimmy Buffett and the abc song. Of all things, she likes banjos. . . .
On the bright side, since all of her toys play classical music, maybe this balances out the damage I have done.
Since she was named after "Amazing Grace" she hears that one quite a bit.

"Baby Got Back" - Sir Mix-a-lot
"In Da Club" - 50 Cent

"Hot in Here" and "Dilemma" - Nelly
"Matthew, I love you, Matthew I need you, Matthew I love you, I do"

"Bootylicious" - Destiny's Child
"Crazy in Love" - Beyonce

The funny part is I am not a big rap fan or r&b fan at all. I love rock - alternative, classic, some metal- so everyone I know gets a kick out of this...

I find Howard extremely entertaining. I met him once in 1988 and understand exactly what he is doing and know it is all mostly just an overembellishment of his life.

It sickens me what the government and certain segments of the far religious right is trying to do as far as fining him. I don't like anyone telling me what I can or allow my daughter to listen to. I make that decision thank you very much. Then you have a fine about to be dropped on CBS/Viacom for that exposed breast and it really just makes me throw up my hands in anger. But that is for another thread...

I've mentioned this in other posts, but singing "99 Bottles of Beer" is guaranteed to calm Ellie!

Every song on Kylie Minogue's "Fever" makes her very happy.

And I sometimes worry that her first words will be the opening lines of AC/DC's "Shook Me Me All Night", since DH sings that to her!
