View Full Version : When do second naps end?

Sophie up until recently took a late morning nap (around 10-11) and then another in the afternoon (around 2-3pm). The naps are about an hour long - give or take 15-20 minutes. Lately, she's been resisting the morning nap. I *think* she just is resting (can't tell because I'm usually out cold ;) ).

She gets up around 8-8:30 most days and goes to bed around 8pm, sleeping through the night (most of the time). But since she's been resisting the morning naps, I'm finding that she takes a 3 hour nap in the afternoon and then will sit in her crib for a good hour before falling asleep at night.

Is this the end of her two nap days?

ACK!

DD gave up her morning naps at daycare about a month ago. But I did notice that on weekends (and last week when the daycare was closed) that when she's home, she still takes an hour in the morning. I think at home, she's not busy enough to resist the napping urge in the morning. Without the morning nap, she'll nap for at least 2 hours in the afternoon.
On normal days, she's asleep by 9 pm and I get her up by 7 am.

I'm not sure how it can be done but if you can perhaps get her to take one nap a little earlier? Maybe then she'll be sleepy enough by bedtime? Easy to say this, but not sure how I would even attempt this myself.

My kids both gave up their morning nap around 14 months. DD gave up her pm nap about 2 months ago --just in time for me to be pregnant and wishing I could sleep. Ha ha. You might want to limit her nap in the pm -- and should not sleep past 4 if you want to her go down easier at night.

Audrey dropped her AM nap when she was around 14 mos. Now she takes a power nap from around 12:30-3:30.

Matthew stopped his first nap before he turned a year. He naps now in the afternoon, anywhere from 1-3 hours, usually after 1pm. He goes to bed between 8-9 pm, depending on the day.

Jealous??? :P

Don't be. Audrey wakes up between 6-7 AM...I'd shave an hour off her nap if she would sleep until 8:00 AM like Sophie!

At almost 16 months Jack is alternating. On daycare days-M,W, F he is only taking one nap-2 hours from 12-2. He is usually fairly cranky by the time he gets to bed at 7:30p. On the rest of the days he almost always is taking 2 naps. 9-10:30 and 2-4p. He sleeps from 7:30p until 6:30a. Yup. He's in the 100th percentile for sleep. He seems to do well at daycare with just one nap-but I think thats because he is so busy doing stuff and there are som many other kids. At home we are a little more mellow-reading, sandbox, playing one on one.

Gabrielle just gave up her half hour morning nap this week. She now naps 2 hours in the afternoon and 11 hours at night. :D

We seem to be transitioning right now at a little over a year. DS used to take a morning and afternoon nap for 1-1.5 hrs, though lately he has been taking strange naps...an am nap for an hour and afternoon for 3 hours, or just one afternoon nap...or just one morning nap (today). I am hoping he'll settle into a routine soon...i wish he'd tell me that he is going to take a loooong nap so i can get something done!

He sleeps around 11 hrs at nite going to bed around 7.30 pm.
