This is the third time that I've had to clean up garbage from my back yard and I'm sick of it!!!! If I catch that dog/cat/raccoon or other beast going through my garbage, I'm going to give it the boot.
We don't have a garage or any other enclosure for the trash cans to go into. Anyone have any good ideas or know of any animal proof trash cans????

We are dealing with this too. In our case, it's a family of Raccoons. I think our solution will be to buy that storage bin for garbage cans by Rubbermaid. I don't know why we (and when I say we I mean my dh!) hasn't purchased this system already because this is a nightly battle with the animals. HTH!

maybe bungee cords to secure the lid.
maybe scatter moth balls around it... animals are "suppose" to not like the smell.

Sonia-
You don't use 'sposies do you?
We have the same problem, but I've found that if I scatter Sophie's wet dipes throughout the garbage (like two or three in each garbage bag), the animals tend to stay away.
I don't think they like the smell of people urine ;)

My parents had this problem several years back. Raccoons (I saw one one night and I swear it could have been a horse it was so big!) actually ate through the can lids. We bought my father this

for Father's Day. It's the only solution we've found.
