Did anyone see it today? I stuck a tape in the VCR as I was leaving the house, but have no idea what time the segment aired. If you can give me a general idea of the time so I don't have to wade through 2.5 hours of tape, I would love it! Thanks!

I watched the segment today, and the LC said that having pain in the first two minutes that was "bad enough to make your eyes water and your toes curl" was normal, but that it should feel better after the first two minutes...Really?

When I was trying desperately to nurse Joshua, it hurt that bad, and everyone told me if he was latched on corrcectly it wouldn't hurt at all. So, for 3 weeks I took him off every time it hurt and tried to re-latch him, thinking I must be doing it wrong. I finally gave up, convinced he couldn't latch on right (and due to other problems as well). BUT, if a LC ever told me that some pain was normal in the beginning, and one day it wouldn't hurt anymore once my body got used to it, maybe I could have stuck with it.

Why-oh-why can't women ever get any straight advice on nursing? It's so frustrating!

I posted in the thread on feeding about this, I thought it was the best part about the entire segment. (Don't get me started on "I'm afraid of BF" Ms. Campbell-Brown). It appears that some pain can be normal, despite every book saying its not! It was important that she said that if it doesn't go away, seek help. Bad latch causes pain, yes, but sometimes you have pain with a good latch. So many women who are sucessful with BF report this, so it must not always be bad! I bit my lip for the first 45-60 seconds of every nursing session for a few weeks, too, then it stopped. The hospital LC and the private LC both told me this was NORMAL, after observing DS's latch. That helped me stick with it!

I think lots of informed women like you, Amy, quit when you didn't necessarily want to, because of stuff like this. DS and I have had about 4 bumps in our nursing relationship. Without the support of the boards, and nursing moms I know IRL, we could have easily quit each time. I suspect lots of moms do, and that's a shame, if they really wanted to BF.
