We've been invited to a college graduation party for DH's cousin. We're not very close to her, but feel that we should take some sort of gift. Any ideas for a budget graduation gift? I think she just got a Public Relations (or is it Marketing????) degree - if that makes any difference.

thanks!

I might take a nice (plain) picture frame--she could probably use it at her new home! Plus you can get a nice picture frame that isn't that expensive!

What about a copy of Dr. Suess' "Oh the Places You'll Go"

How about a travel mug with some teas, cocoas, and Lipton Cup of Soup? Wrap it in some clear cellophane and add curly ribbon and it looks festive (for under $15).

I just graduated in December, and some of my favorite gifts were alumni gifts, such as a mug and car tag holders that said Texas Tech Alumni. If you wanted to do a few small things, you could get a few pens from her college and wrap them with note pads or stationary from there as well. Of course this only works if she is proud of where she graduated from! :)

Is she going to have a job with a desk? If so, perhaps something to put on the desk - paperweight, clock, business card holder, pen/pencil cup. You could even get it engraved. Things Remembered sells a lot of this sort of thing. You might check with her college, buy when I graduated, I got a copy of my college diploma on a paperweight.

Great idea!!! I have a couple Dr. Seuss books I've received as special occasion gifts, and this one was a graduation gift from a sorority sister. I treasure it above other gifts I received because she added a personal note to me on the inside.

My other impulse thought was cash :) I loved being able to buy odds and ends for my first apartment with the cash I received as graduation gifts. I don't think it matters how much you'd give as cash, because anything the grad receives gets put together anyway.

A Target gift card. If she's graduating and going out on her own she'll be spending a lot of time at Target buying things for her first apartment!

pottery barn has a suprisingly inexpensive engraved business card holder.

red envelope has some neat desk things. i like a paperweight that says, "what would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?"

I agree with the Target gift card if she's setting up an apartment (or maybe even Crate and Barrel). I also thought of a gift card to the mall. If she's in marketing/PR she'll most likely need some additions to her wardrobe for interviewing/new job. I'm sure even a small amount would help and be very much appreciated.

i used to always give those really small swiss army knives that can hang on a keychain. they come in tons of colors and designs. they really come in handy. some have college crests or mascots on them. they are usually about 20 dollars.

I love giving the Anna Quindlen book "A Short Guide to a Happy Life." It's not expensive but such a special gift for a graduation.
