and you can't wait for quitting time? I looked at the clock at around 5 today and thought only 2 hours and I am DONE. There was nothing particulary motherly about my actions and I was just going through the motions -dinner, bath, stories, bed.

I hear you, Jessica! Did you ever read the book "Operating Instructions" by Anne Lamott? It chronicles her son's first year of life and she talks about how she feels like she is just sitting with the baby waiting for his parents to come home, seeing as they are out of chips and diet cokes! I think we have all had days like that. As much as I love being at home with the girls, there are defintely days when I start to think, is there EVER a time when I get to go off duty? :) Take care!

YES! And when DH gets a call at 3pm asking if it's 5pm yet, he knows he's going to get the fastest baby handoff before he gets out of the car! Can you tell we've had those days more than once?!

One day DH came home and I went to hand him DD. She started to cry a little and my husband sort of started to give her back and said something like "oh, she wants you".

Well I, uncharitably, said "tough luck" and walked out of the room.

Some days are just harder than others.

LOL, Lauren! The first few months of Ellie's life, DH and I would say to her (joking of course): "don't worry, someday you're real parents will come and get you!" We didn't say this b/c we didn't love her, but b/c we couldn't believe that we were *actually* her parents. I still feel like a teenager (and believe me, I'm not even close!).

And yes, somedays I can't wait until *quitting time*! I totally understand.

Oh, my yes. Especially when we have a tough day, I can't wait for her bedtime to roll around (one of the benefits of sleep training!) so I can take a break.

ETA: Of course then there are those days when she's down for the night, and I want to go in and cuddle her! :)
