Okay, I thought I posted this, but it's not showing up, so I apologize if it becomes a duplicate post.

My friend's MIL loves to knit. She is probably a "master" knitter, if there is such a thing. However, she loves to knit off of patterns, the more difficult the better. I'm thinking of asking her to knit some longies or something along those lines for DD, but she won't do it unless it's very difficult. In fact, if it makes her undo it and start all over 5 times, she'll be in heaven. Does anyone know of a place we can find difficult/complex patterns for something like longies? She would also like a very difficult pattern for a baby blanket because she wants to knit one for my friend.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

TIA!

Check out www.woolywonder.com -- I don't know about the difficulty of their pattern, but there are knitting forums where you could post this and definitely find one. And Pamela (the owner) is really nice.

www.littleturtleknits.com has a pretty pattern for longies, but it's only rated "intermediate."

Thanks, Anna. The pattern at littleturtleknits is quite pretty, but she may find it too easy. :) Gee, I wish I had that problem! I'll check out woolywonder next.

I can't help with longies, but I have an idea for a baby blanket. I made The Great American Aran Afghan for a wedding gift. I thought it was rather tough. It is made of 20 different squares that are then knitted together. It would be too big for a baby blanket, but I saw a picture of someone who used 10 squares and 2 plain squares. She put the plain squares in the middle and included the baby's name, birth date, and maybe more info on them. The 10 design squares bordered this. It looked really nice.

Some of the squares were easy and only took me 8 hours. Some required multiple starts and took up to about 20 hours. I'll attach a photo of the one I made. There are 4 other squares that aren't shown. Mine ended up about 48x60 inches.
