Today is the day we have to pick carpet. We have been researching and going to different stores. Honestly, we don't like carpet! But, we are going to put it upstairs in the bedrooms and on the stairs. Any one have any strong opinions one way or another about Berber in bedrooms and on stairs? Most people I know put Berber in family rooms or basements only. We aren't set one way or another, so I thought I would ask for some opinions! Thanks.

We have that exact scenario...berber on 2nd floor (bedrooms and hallway) and stairs leading to 2nd and then hardwood downstairs. We love it and the berber hides stuff (ours is off white w/ speckles).

At our previous condo (new when we bought it), we had berber all the way through. We were told berber might not work well on stairs because the bottom of it shows through when you bend it more than other kinds of carpet, but we found that not to be the case (at least with the kind we had). The best thing about it was that it didn't show vacuum marks like other types of carpet (silly concern of mine, I know). However, we got a fairly light shade with not much variation in color, and it showed stains pretty easily. The more multicolored ones might be better in that regard.

We have berber carpet throughout our house, except kitchen, bath and master bedroom which are not carpeted. I really like it. Not sure why people might limit it to certain rooms?

We are in the same exact situation in that we need stairs and upstairs carpeted (I MUCH prefer hardwood floors like I have downstairs, but that won't work this time).

We were very concerned with all the stuff htey put in carpet, chemicals and such. At our local store, they offered us an envirnmentally friendly, low to no chemicals carpet made from recycled materials. We're going with that and we're very relieved to have found such an alternative!

We have hardwoods downstairs and the rest of the house, including the bedrooms, is berber. I think it wears and hides stains better. It isn't uncomfortable to walk on in the bedroom as some carpet salespeople might say. If it was uncomfortable in bare feet, I don't think people would have it in other areas of their homes.

I recently did alot of carpet shopping/research and realized that there are all different grades of Berber. I think Berber might get a reputation as a basement carpet because it is a nice, durable alternative to other carpets of the same price range. BUt you can get Berbers that are much thicker and softer that would work in any room of the house. We ended up with one that was $3.99/sq foot from Mohawk and really like it.

We have berber everywhere there is carpet in the townhome we're moving into right now. The only places where there isn't the berber is the foyer and downstairs hallway (it's hardwood), the kitchen (it's hardwood), and of course the bathrooms. I don't think it's strange, and I think it looks quite nice, actually. So if you like berber, I say go for it. :)
