well, i guess you could say we are TTC! DH and i had thought we'd wait until next year, but there have been several situations in our lives recently that made us realize that there's no time like the present.

anyway, if we just started trying a week ago, and i have really wonky menstral/ovulation cycles (like 6-8 a year), is it too soon to take a test without it being a false negative?

i suppose i should just call my midwife, but i thought i'd ask here first!

Too early. Needs to be about two weeks out from your last ovulation day.

First Response Early Pregnancy Tests have worked the best for several people I know.

Good luck

You need to wait about 2 weeks post ovulation or the day of your missed period. Some tests, like the FRE that Marissa mentioned can be taken early. I have tested with FRE up to 2 days before my missed period and gotten an accurate result (postive when it was really positive). This has been true for me for several pregnancies.

The FRE box says you can test up to 4 days before your missed period, but the accuracy is only around 60% if you test that early. If you wait until 2 days before the accuracy is around 90%.

But if your cycles are truly that irregular, I would try to wait the full two weeks.

I'd wait. I tested (positive result) the day before my expected period - 13 days post-O. Congratulations on deciding to TTC and best wishes for a quick conception!

Beth, Sarah, Marisa - thanks! i guess i'll just have to gain some patience and give myself some time. it happened so quickly with DS that i guess i was expecting instantaneous conception!

implantation doesn't happen until 6 to 10 days after ovulation. But really you should wait until 14 days after ovulation. Even if you ovulate late in the cycle (around day 20) you need to wait 14 days afterwards (0r close to it, if you can). This will help you not be disappointment from a false negative.

Since we needed help getting pregnant I know exactly when I conceived - on a Mon and being incredibly anxious and already feeling like I was pregnant I took an EPT early respnse 8 days later on a Wed and there was an extremely faint second line. I redid the test 2 days later and the line was much darker.

So the early response ones can work very early!
