View Full Version : OT: to tip or not - on replacement furniture delivery?

We had DS' furniture delivered a while ago and after the delivery men left, I noticed that the footboard was damaged. Tomorrow we are getting our replacement footboard and I am wondering if I tip the men tomorrow?

If this matters: we did tip the men the first time around. Also the damage to the footboard was known to someone - either the manufacturer, or the furniture store (as opposed to it had been accidentally damaged in transit) - the wood had been cracked and then filled in with wood putty.

I am leaning towards not tipping a second time, but is that the right thing?

It wouldn't have occurred to me to tip on the original delivery, so I will be interested in seeing people's responses!

Me neither - I've never heard of tipping furniture deliverymen!

never even thought to...maybe people do I don't...heck there are folks that effect my life a lot more than these guys who I don't tip...

I wouldn't even think in a million years to tip them ...
this is news to me...
maybe I am a huge faux pas though :)

But when the sears guys just dropped off my new washer they were so sweet that I did call sears and let them know how professional these guys were...

Ooh! This is OT, but how is your new washer working out for your dipes? :)

Oh and to remain on topic, it never occurred to me to tip these guys since we pay a delivery charge. I've always figured that their pay comes out of their delivery charge.

Ok, I will let go of my angst. FYI, our furniture place includes the delivery fee in the price. Although we know it's in there, we never see a separate fee. And we usually tip when there is setup involved - in this case, they put the bed together with a trudel and a bookcase.

In any event, I will have a clear conscience tomorrow - thanks!

I would tip a delivery person depending on their level of service.

However, I don't give huge tips -- maybe $5 or $10 per person?

I tipped someone who delivered a replacement part once -- can't remember what it was now.... but he was extremely nice during the delivery.

I also tipped a team of 3 guys who brought in our VERY VERY LARGE side-by-side refrigerator. They had to carry it around to the back of the house and bring it in through the patio door. It was a tight fit, and those guys worked hard! They were very careful with the fridge and with our house.

I also offer sodas if we have a good selection on-hand.

Still wondering if I should raise a stink of the $200 worth of clothes towels etc... that forever have tiny brown stains on them though...

But I am so glad it is replaced!!!!!
