This is a long shot, but I'll try anyway, because I'm despirate :) DH is thinking about switching our insurance from Blue Cross Blue Shield (PPO) to Blue Care (HMO) next year. One main reason is the cost. BCBS does not cover any of DD's well-care visits and shots and has a very high deductable for the family. But I don't know if the whole network thing will cause any problems.

Since we're expecting #2, I'm also concerned if the care for delivering will be different from when we used PPO.

Any input will be greatly appreciated :) Thank you thank you!!

Is Blue Care like CareFirst Blue Choice? CFBC is our HMO through BCBS. I am completely satisfied with them. I had to get a referral, but my visits to my RE were covered. I think I paid a $10 copay per ob visit after that and all the hospital bills were paid.

All of DD's well-visits are covered.

And, I've been to my opthamologist probably 15 times in the past year, and all those visits and many tests have been covered. Actually, I can't think of anything that has not been covered.

Sometimes it is a pain getting referrals to see specialists, but other than that, everything has been fine. We are self-employed and pay an insane amount for insurance anyway, so an HMO (which was less expensive) was fine with us.

Thanks a lot Bonny and Lana!!! Your replies helped me not worry so much about switching to HMO. I'm going to call my OB and Ped to see if they accept Blue Care (crossing my fingers).

Thank you sooo much :) :)

I used to have BCN, but my employer dropped it due to lots of complaints. Also, my previous family doctor stopped taking new BCN patients because they got paid so very little and were expected to see tons of patients.

I personally had no problems with it. Getting referrals can be a pain and take a couple of days, but it's not a huge deal. It's a trade-off to making sure you're paying the right amount for an 80/20 plan.
