DD is getting an iMac for Christmas (ok, DH wants one, so he has to justify the purchase... My MIL bought trampolines for her other grandchildren, and I said absolutely NO WAY! and he suggested the computer instead...)
Anyway - One of my girlfriends mentioned buying software at smart-estore.com - they seem to have fantastic prices compared to the Apple store - has anyone used the site & have any feedback?
TIA!

I don't think we've ever bought stuff from that particular etailer. Jonathan usually uses bestbuy.com for our software (Macs here). macmall.com is another good one.

Yes, the Apple store is ridiculously expensive, but it's completely worth it for certain hardware. That way, you can take the equipment directly to Apple and not have to worry about a middleman and warranty issues.

We have a PowerBookG4 that's had to go in a couple of times and we've learned our lesson!

We have used the smart-estore many times. We have never had a problem. Keep in mind that the reason their prices are so cheap is because they tend to sell outdated versions of the software. On the other hand, why does a toddler need super-fast software that requires a lot of RAM and a fancy graphics card? Our kids have an old Pentium II and all the software works just fine on that.

BTW we also have a Mac and while the software works on there it cna be annoying. On some games (the Reader Rabbit series notably) when the chikd clicks the mouse in the wrong place it can pop out to the desktop. We do not have this problem on the PC. I believe most of these games are hybrids.

Good luck!

Thanks - I'm going to start with 3 of the games DD loves to play at the library, and we'll see how it goes. I about croaked when we looked at the game prices - 5.95 is much easier to swallow - if they don't work out, I haven't lost much!

Keep looking on their site! Many of the games are $3.95 or less!! They also have the 'free' software:

http://www.smart-estore.com/juice

http://www.smart-estore.com/puddle

http://www.smart-estore.com/worm

http://www.smart-estore.com/kidtime2

There is different software listed on the pages for different prices.

Look at the juice link: it has $3 software and the titles you like might be on there!

Aack! I ordered at the 5.95 prices - before I read your last post :(
Even at that price, the software was a bargian, though - I've bookmarked the juice link to use if we're happy with the first order - Thanks for your help! Renee
