View Full Version : Where did your children's first teeth show up?

With DD showing all the signs of teething (and has for a couple months now), I'm curious where I should look for those new teeth. Some people have told me the top ones came in first while others have said the bottom ones did. So what about your children? (If you have more than one child and they showed up in different places, choose "other")

DS got his bottom middle two teeth within 1 day of each other, right before he turned 6 months. Two months later, that's still all he has. Ironically, I didn't see/feel them coming in until they cut through the skin, although DH kept insisting he could feel the teeth coming through. I, who was BF, kept insisting he was wrong, that *I* would be able to feel them. How wrong I was! :-)

DS got his bottom left tooth a day before 5 months and it just appeared. Last week, we could see the bottom right tooth, but it didn't get through the gum until this morning. So far, no signs of top teeth.

All 3 of my kids first teeth were the bottom 2 in the middle.

After that it varied for each kid :).

Huh. It looks like I should be looking in the bottom for her teeth! I'm hoping it'll poke through soon! Her sleep has been disrupted lately--waking up twice for feeding instead of once! And she's been fussing more than usual and not going down for more than one nap this week! Ack! I need sleep!

Noah got the bottom middle when he was around 8 months old. Beware, it happened all at once. Within a few more weeks he had sprouted the top middle too. Now he has 8, four on top, four on bottom.

My best friend's DD got her top middle teeth first, but judging by this poll I guess it is not as common?

Yes, that is interesting. For some reason, I always thought the top teeth came in first. I guess it made sense that way because you'd want the top teeth to tear off food. But I guess the bottoms ones could do that just as easily.

My son's first tooth (bottom middle) didn't show up until he was 8 months old. His second (also the bottom) came in a month later. He then got four upper teeth, almost simultaneously, a few months after that.

I didn't vote because at almost 14 months, Benjamin STILL has NO teeth!! I'm beginning to wonder if he has any in there at all!

Eileen,

My son had more wakings than normal for about 3 nights before we saw his first tooth. He then had another couple of bad nights (maybe it was still coming up?). Then, he was back to normal, which for us is 2-3 feedings and right back to sleep. Actually, after that tooth, he started sleeping even better, by not staying up at 4AM.

Earlier this week, he started sleeping poorly again, and yesterday we could feel the tooth. I'm hoping that by this weekend, we'll all be getting more sleep again!

I hope you see Kaya's tooth soon!

At 8 months. By this age (14 mos), he'd gotten 6, I think. They're so different in every other way, I'm not surprised!

At four months old Joshua got his bottom tow middle teeth, and then only days later the top two middle teeth. UGH. There was alot of sleepless nights and LOTS of Motrin! LOL!

Today! At seven months and one day his bottom middle right side tooth broke through. After 2 nights of terrible sleeping for us all, including the 2 dogs, we now know why are good boy has been so sad and fussy. We've had "false alarms" in the last month, (fussiness, no naps, lots of night waking) so last night I really didn't think it was teething. We thought he was getting stuffed up and waking himself up because of the heat coming on with our newly arrived chilly weather. I checked his mouth this morning and was surprised to see that his little tooth broke through. I gave him some Hylands Teething Tablets and he napped a little better today. Tonight gave him some Infant Tylenol and he was noticably more relaxed when he went to sleep. I feel bad for him that we didn't give him anything last night to relieve his discomfort. I hope he can sleep better tonight!

Congratulations! I'm not sure if I'm getting a false alarm or what, but she's definitely wide awake and complaining. :(

Forrie got his two bottom teeth the same week, when he was barely 5 months. Last month, he got his eye teeth, he looks like a little vampire when he smiles big. And now, I am convinced that his top two teeth are coming in, you can feel them under the gums. And, like Kaya, he is super cranky-pants, and sleeping even worse than his usual crappy sleep. But, I feel so sorry for the guy. We are using tylenol in the day, and motrin at night, usually only one dose of each per day. It really seems to help.

Brace yourself...... my son had 8 teeth by the time he was 6 months!!! :-)

He got his bottom middle 2 teeth at the same time when he was 3 months and 1 week. I could actually see them in the gums as they moved up (it took about 1 week for them to cut through).

He then got 4 teeth at once along the top (the middle 2 and the 2 on either side). I could see these teeth in the gums, as well, and unfortunately for my son, it took 7 weeks for the teeth to cut through. Maybe because 4 were moving at once, or because they were top teeth?

My son then got 2 more on the bottom, which came through on his 6 month birthday.

Taran's bottom middle teeth both popped through at the same time. Of course, interestingly enough the next pair to come through (his seem to come in pairs) was the top left middle one and the one to its left. We've now got the top right middle one and the one to its right coming in - they broke through a week or so ago. So he's no longer lopsided. ;)

What's the difference between Motrin and Tylenol in what they do for him? We have generic Tylenol, but no Motrin. Is 8 months too young for Motrin?

Toby cut two teeth just to the left and right of his top two center teeth first. Shortly followed by bottom teeth in 3 spots and the top center two are working through now. He is a LATE teether.
