Hi-
Not sure where this question goes so I thought I'd post here. I'm looking for some ideas/websites, etc...for my son's 1st birthday cake. I don't want anything like Barney or Elmo or anything, maybe something simple and classy.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Nicole

I recently had a posting in the Crafts section looking for birthday cake ideas. Here's that link.

Be sure to check out www.familyfun.com. They have quite a few ideas.

Good luck finding something.

Hi Nicole,
Do you have an idea what the theme of the party is going to be? Once i had a theme then everything else (like baloons, cake and shoes) fell into place. Otherwise I was getting boggled by all the choices out there!
My friend Cindy made a wonderful monkey cake for our monkey party. It was in the Wilton catalog.

since I don't bake... well never have attempted anyways.... besides those cookies in a roll or cake from a box! We went to our local Pavillions supermarket and ordered a sheet cake from them! It was white with multi colored balloons on it and said Happy 1st Birthday Mason across the bottom! We decided on white cake with whipped cream frosting and fresh strawberries (they also do banana or peaches I think if you are worried about allergies!).... it was SOOOO Yummy!

Our general theme was party.... solid multi colors, balloons, and we bought some party supplies that were a 1st birthday boy thing with a bear and a rocket ship.... it worked out great!

Here it is!

Hope this helps you!

I forgot to mention in the other thread.. that is an awesome cake! Your friend did such a great job!

We're doing a cow cake using the Wilton rocking horse pan. I wanted to do a 3D one but since we have to bring the cake to a farm, I figured that was just asking for trouble. ;)

I don't know if you're referring to baking a cake yourself or having one made, so if you're baking it yourself, I have no ideas, being baking inept.
However, if you're having one made....
I'm going for a Mad Hatter style cake for DS's 1st birthday (I love not being stuck with any kind of kid character theme, as for the past few years my DD has forced far too much Disney Princess junk down my throat). Normally, for this kind of thing, I just google the style of cake I want, and print out a few pictures to bring to the baker to dexcribe what I want. Here's one of my favorite sites (the Mad Hatter cakes are towards the bottom):

Obviously, these cakes are more elaborate than I'm going for, but they give the general idea. I'm probably just doing a 2-layer, as the 3-layer cake feeds way more people than I plan on having, and the price jumps up a lot (I should say, this is not that expensive really, as I have a fabulous baker who just charges about $30 a layer. Also, the whole thing is done with icing, not fondant, as in the pictures, as kids HATE fondant, and it triples the cost).
I plan on taking the appropriate pictures, then giving DS the top layer to destroy while the rest of the guests eat the bottom layer.
I also like the idea of this cake, just on a large one layer, perhaps next year for a castle/dragon/knight theme:

Also, I did something like this for one of DD'S earlier birthdays, with a simple, beautiful cake on top, and the cupcake tower below, though mine was also stuffed with flowers. Beautiful!

Found this link that someone put in another post on here about birthdays :)

I'm attempting this cake for my son's first birthday, It doesn't look to hard at all (I'm hoping atleast). I'm just going to use red or green instead of the pink.

Also, some cool other ideas for cakes on the site as well.
