View Full Version : does anyone have one of the TEMPERPEDIC MATTRESSES

We looked at them about three years ago and it seems so "hard", we did one of the stupidest things economically and bought a super expensive soft mattress that creeked (they replaced it) and I think has caused my body to ache big time.

My friend swears by her temperpedic mattress, we recently bought the pillows and I like them.

Yesterday a Pelvic Pain Specialist at Duke University diagnosed me with a pelvis separation which I thought I had since delivering Tristan...so I wondered if this might help me.

Anyone have it???

We bought a Tempurpedic about 3 years ago. We absolutely love it and would whole-heartedly recommend it. I am so happy every night when I get into bed. I really don't think they seem "hard." The firmness can vary based on room temperature though, so if your room is very cold (like 60), they do get a bit harder.

We have it and LOOOOOVE it. In fact, I have a terrible time sleeping on anything else (like in a hotel).

We have the original one in a King size. It's five years old now. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is horrifyingly heavy. I don't like that I can't shift it to straighten it or to adjust the dust ruffle. The good thing, though, is that you don't have to flip it. Ever.

We got ours at Brookstone, but you can buy it at several places now. They have new pillow top ones that aren't as firm. I believe it's called the "Celebrity".

Honestly, once you get used to it, you will never go back!

I believe it has a 60 or 90 day trial period through Brookstone, so you can give it a try. They were recently running a special that you'd get a $200 giftcard with the purchase of the mattress.

We don't have it, but my parents do and absolutely love it. Everytime I go back home I plunge into their bed... I don't think it's hard, it is just different. And once you get used to it you will never go back to a spring mattress. BTW, did you try sleeping on your side with a pillow between your thighs? I started doing that last pregnancy, and kept it ever since. It took all my backpain away.

I hope you find something that works for you!

We almost bought one but didn't because the 20 year warranty said in the fine print that if after 10 years the mattress was, say, 25 percent mushy/flat/bad, then you'd get 25 percent back, or something like that. Bottom line was that they would not just give you a new mattress.

That said, my husband is not happy with our regular (kind of expensive) innerspring mattress and he's wishing we bought the Tempurpedic. I'm pretty sure that through Tempurpedic they will deliver it free and let you try it for a couple of months and take it away for free if you don't like it, so you may not have anything to lose by trying it. (This might not be true anymore, I'm really not sure.)

We have one for 5 years now and love it. It is firm but I've gotten used to it and wouldn't go back to an innerspring mattress. I like how the Temperpedic molds to my body. It all depends on your personal preference. My husband raved so much about the Temperpedic that his parents bought a set, but didn't like it so they sent it back during the 90-day trial.

I bought a pillow like that, and it had a very unusual smell. You might want to research what odors/toxins it is putting off first, especially if you think you may co-sleep again.

these past two nights I have done it religously, until then just every once inawhile...I sure hope it does the trick...
I do feel better this morning so maybe it is the pillow!!!!

Does anyone have an opionion on that??? IT appears to be only a few inches thick...but would save us a lot..saddly it is hard to justify geting rid of the soft mattress after we spent so much on it no matter how much it is killing my body (I really wish I spent more time researching mattresses)...

Melanie-

The pillow smells for a couple days (maybe a week) and then it goes away. They even include a little note about it with the pillow.

The mattress didn't smell. At least ours didn't ;).

I've often thought about buying one and taking it with when we travel. I don't think that you'd get the same "experience" with just the topper though. The whole concept of the mattress is total body support. There's not much 2" of foam will do.

Call Brookstone. Their CS is really quite good. I"m sure they can answer the question. If nothing else, try the 90 trial period for a regular mattress.

Another idea, what about ordering a smaller one (less cash layout) for that new bed you just bought from your neighbour? You can try it, if you like it, send that one back and order a bigger one for your Master.

Neve,
After much researching, James finally got the memory foam mattress from KnoxFoam (http://www.knoxfoam.com). We LOVE it. The best mattress i have ever had.

Rashmi,

How long have you had this mattress? DH and I have been thinking about getting one and it really looks like a good deal, especially because of their moving sale and free shipping. Which one of the two types did you end up getting? The body form or the trilux? They describe the difference between them, but I can't tell from the description how they would feel different to us.

Thanks!

we have a mattress pad that is the memory foam. My sister got it for us and two of the contoured pillows for christmas a couple of years ago! It definetly helped with our old mattress.... made it much more comfortable to sleep on. We are in the market now for a King size bed and we will be keeping the pad for our horrible sofa bed.... I know it will make a difference for anyone who has to sleep on that thing!

Good luck.... mattress shopping is the worst.... I sware we have been pondering mattresses for a year now.... first we were all set with a Stearns and Foster... then they changed their whole line up... then we sayed on a sealy from Costco that really didn't feel all that bad and we almost bought it right then and there. Now they don't have them in the warehouses anymore so it would be a two week wait to get it. I briefly thought about a latex mattress.... but there are so many brands and styles it is so hard to know if you are buying something quality or not and they are not cheap! I don't want to make a mistake that I have to live with for years!!!!

If you don't mind my asking.... what soft mattress did you buy that you don't like now????

Hi Eileen,
I can ask dh what went into his decision making process but he decided on the trilux. I think it was a little over $500 for a full size one. Something about the mattress cover bugged me so i ended up returning it and we have been happy ever since!
Let me ask James more details when he gets home. I think the shipping was free when we got it too.. this was before Leela arrived so around 1.5 years ago.

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to chime in sooner but I have to say that I'm probably one of the only people who hated the Temperapedic mattress. Everytime I went to the store to try it out, I hated it. It sucks you down into it. When I went to roll over, it gripped my arms, and I felt like I was being pulled down into quick sand. To me, the material becomes as firm as compacted sand once it's compressed anyways...we even gave our Temperapedic pillows away because they made our necks hurt. In fact, my aunt just bought a King Temperapedic (from Brookstone) because she LOVED her topper so much....and now that she's past her 90-day trial, she wishes she stayed with her reg mattress and the pad.

In the end, we went with a Simmons Beautyrest (Do not disturb) Mattress (not pillowtop, but plushtop...a little different). We just added a visco-elastic memory foam topper we got on sale at Macy's for $100. Now, our bed is perfect! Friends ask us all the time what kind of mattress we have (as it's the best of both worlds). The topper won't suck you in, but it will cushion and gently support you (especially during pregnancy).

Bottomline: Everyone is SOOOOO different when it comes to preference for sleeping...so I guess it doesn't say much...but write down a list of features you want and don't give up until you find it. Then, add the topper of your choice to round it out. (Edited for clarity).

Well, DH, after looking at the website, decided to go ahead and order the Body Form. We also got a mattress cover, but if it bugs us, we can always return that easily. :) I've been thinking about getting the temperapedic for quite some time now, but never got around to looking for it. After looking at the comparison between the temperapedic and the Knox foam, we decided we like the Knox foam because I actually like it to be a little softer. And it's cheaper too! Especially with this 20% off sale and free shipping! So we'll try it and if we don't love it, we can always return it.

Thanks for posting about this website. It looks like a good alternative to the temperapedic. I don't think I would ever have found it without your help. :)

and I think made locally but I assume is national.
when Steve and T are up I will see if the tag on it has more specifics. It is a king...

Steve bought the Sams Club memory foam topper last night for me, but it can't it be used for several hours after opening it up they remove all air when packing it and thus it needs to "unfold" it is kind of odd...

I think the king size was about $130 at sams.
