I was craving believe it or not cabbage soup (from the ol'd cabbage soup diet days 10 years ago) the other day and made a whole bunch...it hit the spot and each bite is exactly what I wanted. But I got so cramped up for hours after eating it.

It still is in the fridge and I am dying to eat some...but the pay off isn't worth it...if I cook it longer can I eat it...remove the cabbage????
Is there anyway I can enjoy this boring soup that I am craving???

Oooh...I love cabbage soup (Borshcht). I could eat it all the time, except for the problem that you mention. I too would be interested in finding out if there's a way to make it less gassy. I think there's some way to do it with beans, although at the moment I can't think of it! So I'm going to chime in on your question. Anyone know how to make beans and cabbage less gassy?

Have your DH pick up some Beano drops. They sell it everywhere.

With beans, I've heard that if you add some baking soda to them when they soak, that helps. I don't know about cabbage - I craved it once, cooked it up, and then threw it away. LOL! Otherwise, get some Phazyme or Beano. It sounds silly, but it works!

Oh Neve, I had totally forgotten about that cabbage soup fad so many years ago. Actually that was the first and only fad diet have ever tried. I was so sick of cabbage that I only recently started putting it in soup again but only with a lot of other ingredients. :-)

As far as the gas goes, I second M's Beano suggestion, assuming you can take it when you are pregnant.

That's funny because I craved cabbage too while pregnant with Kieran. I ate it mostly in the form of Cole Slaw. I was ok with gas but I know that soup made me gassy back then. Can you ask your OB if Beano is safe?
