OK, I have to admit that the commercial for the LS Learning Table tears me up. We passed Matt's on about 8 months ago to his cousin. The music just brings back such happy memories. That was one of his favorite toys for months and months. Now whenever I hear one of the jingles I break down. It's almost comical. Whenever DH sees the commercial coming on he changes the channel as fast as he can because he knows what's coming.

OMG! You can come here and listen to it. Gabrielle plays it 20 times a day. I hear it in my sleep!

So funny it has the opposite effect on me...I think I am talking about the same commercial...mind you we didn't have one of these tables so know that is why I probably feel this way.

But the commerical with the goofy father saying "look honey it teaches him to count" (or ABCs- or whatever it teaches him) and you have this little kid barely able to hang on to it learning his ABCs before he can walk :)...
the ad disturbs me...sadly...I know I know I am in the minority...but that thing would cause me to go cross eyed. We have one thing that talks and that is the leap frog bus that my friend gave him (I honestly pretended to leave it behind since her boys loved it so)...UGHHHH...I hide it every chance I can get...

OHHHH edited to clarify the word "teaching the ABCs" I have no doubt this high pitched sounds of "1-2-3eeeeeeeee" aren't teaching anyone a darn thing :)...

Neve-
I think I'm with you one this. DH thinks I'm a huge scrouge because I hate most toys that make noise. DD was given a Lily Leapfrog toy for her birthday. While it was sweet and not as as annoying as most, the song is so stuck in my head. "Hi, I'm Lily and you can count on me."

DH loves toys like that. I told him the other day that if we were divorced this stupid Elmo toy he just bought would be a "Dad's house" toy. I think I'll bring them all down to California for Christmas and "forget" them.

heehee... these commercials are so goofy and unrealistic. First of all, i really don't know any guy who would be THAT excited about the toy... second of all, from learning to stand up to letting go of the table.. wouldn't that take at least a few days to master? Third of all, I think they are slyly trying to make parents think that by buying this toy your kid will become some super intelligent baby. Leave it alone already.. you are only a baby for so long.. do we really need to have them know their ABCs and numbers.. grr... ticks me off.

As for primary coloured plastic... looks like our apartment is decorated with the stuff. How much ever I try, people still give these things as gifts...they only one I bought is the Fisher Price intelli-table thing (which was Bella's).. Leela loves that bugger... it is seriously dangerous for parents though. She takes off the top playing ring. Inside are stored 2 other ones. She flings them like a frisbee at me. There should be some mechanism to clip it in place. She has also jammed her fingers in there multiple times... now she has learnt and replaces the ring gingerly.. but that is not cool!

The incrediblock... well, once again, I turn off the music and lights...and just yesterday my cousin bought her even MORE peekablocks. nnnnnnmnnn..

Then she has the Playskool Step and Ride which is so poorly designed. When it is in the Step mode.. there is barely enough room for their legs/feet to fit into the back.. grr..

This child has way too many toys and I am going insane!!!!! It takes me like 15 minutes putting everything away at the end of the day

So here is what one wall of her room looks like and this does not even include a dump truck that is filled with stuffed toys and what not.
