I haven't been able to find a reasonably priced table cloth in the off white that I want-I just want one very simple and plain. I found a white one and am wondering if it could be dyed a la Martha Stewart with a tea stain base. Is this nuts? The table cloth was only 12.99 so it wouldn't be a total disaster if I ruined it. Any ideas or experience welcomed. TIA.

If it's 100% cotton, yes. If it has any polyester in it, it won't take.

Have fun!!

I once tea-stained a white dress on which I had, ironically, spilled a cup of tea. It turned out great! I just made a tub of super strong black tea and let it soak for a day or so until it was slightly darker than I wanted it to be. I have no idea if that's how you're "supposed" to do it, but it worked great for me!

Yes, I remember that from "Little Women"!

Yes, you definitely can if it's 100% cotton like Marisa said. The key will probably be getting the whole tablecloth in & swished well so that you don't have patches or swirls. The smaller it is the easier it will be.

Good luck & let us know how it turns out!

if you want a very slight red tint... rooibos tea is/has been used as a dye for cloth and other materials. the new marketing strategy for rooibos is calling it red tea. i think it would work very well as it likes to stain my teeth :) hth
