I'm getting fed up! I've tried on dozens of shoes and most of them don't either come in wide widths or don't have half sizes! I finally settled on some Munros, as they comes in WW, but they just aren't that comfortable for me after three hours of walking. We're going on a vacation that involves lots of walking, and I was hoping I could find something by now. I would prefer something that looks somewhat decent/stylish and it has to have a closed toe area.

Any ideas?

Lands End has a whole section of wide shoes on their website.

www.nordstrom.com and www.zappos.com also have wide sections on their site.

Have you tried Danskos? Ugly but seriously comfy!!!

I love Birkenstocks. I have wide feet (wear a wide width in regular shoes) and their "regular" width typically fits me fine. Some are not so stylish, but if you check out their full line at one of the sites below they have come a long way in recent years.

Zappos and I'm sure other online retailers sell them as well.

I second the Birkenstock recommendation. I have these in taupe and black, and they fit me at 9+ mos pregnant and swollen beyond belief. There is a break-in period, so get them and walk around a lot before your vacation.

Also, Lands End has women's shoes in wide widths and half sizes. I asked about them a couple of days ago. I haven't ordered them yet, but they got good reviews here and are much cheaper than the Birks.

Enjoy your vacation! :)

I went to Nordstrom twice to see what they had. Today I realized that I've been living in Birkenstocks sandals and love them :) so it makes sense to look at their shoes. Thanks for the website referrals! I think I'll go to a comfort shoe store tomorrow and try my luck there first, as I only have one week to break into them. not sure about mail order!

If you already wear Birkenstocks then there really won't be that intial break-in period that I think Anna was referring to. Maybe a tiny bit to get the shoe more flexible, but it won't be painful. Definitely not the painful week or so that happens if you have never worn Birkenstocks before. If you are looking for a comfortable closed toe option that is great for wide feet and probably widely available at B&M shoe stores take a look at the Boston clog. Don't know if that is as stylish as you had in mind though. You might try going to http://www.birkenstock.com. There is a store locator link there. It wasn't working from the home page, so here is the direct link: http://www.birkenstock.com/locate/

I have wide feet and hate shoe shopping!! Lands End has some options, and so does Clarks (soooo comfy - worth the splurge). Life Stride makes some wide sizes; I can sometimes find those at Carson Pirie Scott (dept store) and Famous Footwear. Easy Spirits are comfy, but not always very stylish.

Thanks for recommending zappos.com!

None of my local stores carried the birkenstock shoes, so I ordered from there :) I decided to stick to a brand I know.
